I think it's safe to say we're gonna run more complex sets with CP3 and Castle on the team.
Not to beat an old drum but the more I think about it the more I think Salaun was the guy they wanted at 8. Only because the Spurs are so damn thin at the 4 spot with Mamu and Sochan.
There is a bit of a logjam at the 1-3 spots albeit with middling talent. Must have thought not one in the draft at 1-3 positions was worth investing 4 years in.
But i digress.
I think it's safe to say we're gonna run more complex sets with CP3 and Castle on the team.
Yeah I know I'm reading too much into this but I was thinking the same thing. Could wind up not being an issue by opening night... Gotta make room for Ace Bailey in 2025 lol
I don't like that signing.
Castle's ceiling is so much higher as a PG compared to his ceiling as a wing. The best way for him to develop his PG skills is to play PG and with Paul and Jones, he won't. Paul might help him to make the PG transition as a mentor but it's limited if he doesn't play that position during games.
Spurs' FO primary task is to build a young core around Wembanyama and it's been a disaster. Spurs have only added one promising young player in a year with Castle. Even worse, most of young players, who were there before Wembanayama arrived, haven't improved.
His contract being only one year long is a huge positive. Spurs might do a big trade with it at the deadline and should have about $40M in cap space next summer (on a side note, they would have about $17M more in cap space without the Collins extension...). Saying that, I'm more interested in what Spurs' FO has done compared to what they could theoretically do in the future. Spurs moves have been mostly fine individually but, as a whole, they don't bring at all Spurs closer to being a contender. The road to success is still so long and they are just chilling on the side of it.![]()
Dont forget extra 1st R from contender on FEB 25
This will do wonders for Wemby... Great signing.
As a massive hater, the best thing in all this is that CP3 is going to stay ringless, tbh.
How were they going to fit him in salary wise? Were they not going to sign Bosh?
Darn, this brings me down a bit. I also wanted Castle to play PG. I hope the Spurs don't screw his potential up with this move and try and play him in a different spot with little time at PG.
This was Paul's excuse to not have to take less money. Sacrificing for a le sounded better riding on the back of a jet ski.
Ahh right, that makes sense. So were they also going to sign Bosh, CP3, and Lebron, but spread the money out? Is that what they were talking about and he pulled out?
The take away from this thread is the Spurs brought in an undersized over the hill PG who gave up championships over a jersey number dispute to mentor younger players about professionalism and sacrifice.![]()
Give KJ 33? Poor Tre Jones but I like the 3! idea lol nice
I don't agree with this at all. Any time someone talks about "throwing a guy in the fire" there is another side of the coin, which is that that player will have zero compe ion or accountability. Do you want to know why it took Pop so long to stop the Sochan experiment? It's because he "threw Jeremy into the fire". The Spurs being unwilling to bring in any compe ion for Branham and Wesley? It's because those guys are "in the fire". No, it's only a good thing that Castle is going to get an adjustment period before potentially becoming the starting PG. There's negative reason why he has to be the primary ball-handler on the court to learn how to read a defense, run a PnR or do anything else a point-guard does. There's not even evidence that he'd learn it faster that way.
I agree the Spurs' moves aren't where they needed to be. Playing for 2025 is going to hurt them. The Paul signing is one of the few ways they've legitimately invested in their future rather tham just stack assets under the assumption that they'll eventually amount to something.

We need CP0 for the memes.
The lead singer is quite a beautiful young gal. I really like her voice. There is another conversation group on YouTube that I like, also led by a beautiful young gal.
This group here, I really like her cover of Dreams by the Cranberries.
Been a Chris Paul fan for years. I remember watching him frequently during his rookie (and sop re) season in Oklahoma City.
Since the Spurs had the patience to have Sochan playing PG, they should have more patience on Castle playing PG.
Let's hope Paul will DNP some games before the All-Star break, so that Castle can start at PG and Paul can guide him.
After the All-Star break, Paul been traded and Castle will start at PG. And finally the Spurs will get a top 8 pick in 2025 to draft a potential star to pair with Victor.
Why wouldn't he? He did it OKC with SGA.
I called it months ago... CP3 unlike Trae Young is elite at developing young players on his teams... And he does it without dominating the ball... He is the reason OKC now has a winning mindset even though they are so young... He took them to the 4th seed when everyone said they would miss the playoffs and he helped SGA become what he is, all without holding the ball all posession and turning everyone into spot up shooters and lob catchers...
I don't see him throwing Wemby a lot of lobs, I more see him teaching him about how to attack certain spots and matchups... I said this would be the best thing for the Spurs to do months ago and clearly they agree
There is a middle ground between giving the keys of the team to a rookie and putting him in a situation where he will struggle to get playing time.
I think having both Paul and Tre is too much. Right now, if I'm Spurs, I trade away Tre Jones and sign Nunez. I'll start the season with Paul as stating PG and let Castle/Nunez fight to be his backup.
If the Spurs couldn't give Manu AJ's number they sure as won't give it to Keldon tbh
I wouldn't worry about reps for Castle. He's going to get plenty. He should even get reps while playing with CP3.
I don't understand calls to trade Tre. We don't even know if Paul will be around the entire year. Right now, I don't expect it. Even if he is, Jones is only 24 and on a really nice deal. Now, he is on the last year of his contract, so if they think he'll leave, that's a reason to find a suitor, not because of Paul.
They're not going to jeopardize development of young players just to give Paul his reps; he's there to provide a ton of structure that will be valuable to everyone.
Castle is gonna get plenty of opportunities to play PG this upcoming season tbh. CP0 is gonna be hurt a lot and might even be off the team by the time the deadline (trade and buyout) hits tbh.
Come on man, as much as we all hated CP3 in the day he never raped a 13 year old and then refused to support the kid like Warm Karl. That's the one player I'd never cheer for in a Spurs uniform.
