Javaris Crit will be an all star in the future. They get rid of a big contract to get a FA in the future. The get 2 first round draft picks. If Memphis's goal is to rebuild, then this is a great deal for them.
You do if your clearing space for a run at FAs in the summer. This Laker trade isn't even remotely close to being fair. Pau is a franchise player and Kwame is a scrub. You don't trade a franchise player in his prime for scrubs and picks.

They were never willing to take back a contract with years left on it before.
With the next cap space scheme taking place 2 1/2 seasons from now, they can do that now.
Let's take advantage today! lets try to get Miller for Elson and a bottle of riverwalk water
Who would we have to trade to get our hands on Mike Miller?
this is what happened to the ESPN trade machine after the Gasol trade was entered:

Yeah, I'm sure the FAs will just be clamoring to come to freaking Memphis to play with....... Kwame.
We had trouble getting luring 2nd and 3rd tier players to come play with Tim freaking Duncan when we had millions to spend. You think franchise players are going to flock to Memphis to play with no one of consequence???

I just wished we could have sent Odom for Miller and Warrick
I can't add much, and I didn't take time to read the entire thread, but our FO better get on the ball. Mike Miller and Juan Carlos Navarro must be available--go get em!
I can't wait until the playoffs.
If they overpay, why not? Players are mostly about money first, especially the younger ones.
The thing about Gasol is he is the perfect PF option for the triangle offense. He is the player we have been wanting ever since Shaq left. He, Bynum, and Kobe will catapult the Lakers out of the WC. The aging Spurs are no longer a threat this year unless Parker can come back at 100%.
Crit will an all star? You mean like Kwame was supposed to be? That kind of all star? Please. The league is littered with scrubs that had "potential". Paying for potential is how you become like the Knicks.
I guarantee you they're about 29 other GMs that could have offered Memphis more than what they got. Trouble is, they never even got the chance. These types of deals are bad for the entire league.
Well Garnett was my first choice....with Pau as the second....I'm happy today.
who cares, they still have the serbian gangster.
his trade smells like Bynum might be out for way longer than expected.
Gasol is famous for failing in big games.
You sounded smart until the last sentence. That was said last year and the year before. Plus SA is not the only roadblock in the West.
Ok, so maybe you blow your wad on a potential franchise player who gets to team up with......
Kwame.
Nice.
Not to mention Garnett is older than Pau. Minnesota got 2 1st round picks back as well (their own, this year, a lottery pick) and Boston's 2009 pick (estimated as 25-30). Whereas the picks that go to Memphis are LA's 2008 and 2010. LA's current draft position #24. Their 2010 pick, given they will have at least Kobe, Bynum, and Pau est. 25-30...
Yeah, I'd describe this trade as collusion too...I think this does make the laker s the favorite out west. Starting Pau and Bynum as a frontcourt gives the Lakers as formidable a frontcourt in the NBA. Due to the weakness of our current second bigs (the guy beside Duncan), it plays even (or better) I think, with us. Their backcourt is, of course, formidable. Kobe is a load, and playing Odom at SF is potentially dangerous too. Fisher is a crafty old bas too; look at our series with the Jazz last year...
Great pickup for the Lakers. When Bynum and Ariza get back, that team will be ready to rumble.
Not sold on Fish as a starting PG ... still think Farmar is better. But they have a good bench, too.
When was the last time Mihm played? 2005?
he played very well in the olympic qualifiers
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggggghhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhtttttttttttttt
wow
Lakers are finally a contender again.
I fully expect the Mavs to pull the trigger on the Kidd deal now after this trade.
I also expect other teams in the West to make trades. I think this is the season the Spurs make a significant trade before the deadline
