There it is. The missing variable. Which then answers the above about cap space because then HOU technically only moved one of the 8M salaries instead of both because Ariza is coming in via TE.
I thought you couldn't trade the player to the team that submitted an offer and was accepted by said player who was a rfa. This ship sailed when Cuban submitted signing to the league office I presume.
I never thought that they'd amnesty Boozer, but it's the only way to pay Pau and Mirotic.
David Aldridge @daldridgetnt
Pelicans will get Asik, Omri Casspi & 1.5M from Houston. Rockets get Ariza from Wizards, Alonzo Gee and 2015 protected first from Pelicans.
How much cap space will they have after getting both Pau and Mirotic? Let's assume Pau is getting $6.5 million this year (rumored amount).
Nobody wanted him, especially when they knew they had to amnesty him at this point. Costing the Bulls 27 mil for Gasol this year. Hope it was worth it.
Yeah. Houston decided to stay over the cap. They weren't complete fools.
Wow - how is CHI getting those guys with just the money from Boozer?
So it was the first interpretation.
Well, really, it's costing Bulls 6M more to have Pau/Mirotic vs Boozer/Mirotic if the reported numbers for Pau are true (6.5M per year.). Possibly less if someone picks up some of the tab for Boozer (which is likely).
Not much. Less than an MLE-sized amount.
So now HOU will still have their MLE (because they included Ariza in the deal for Asik) and have an 8M TE from the Lin trade. However, they will be hard capped at 81M this year because of the participation in the S&T.
They were only at 65 salary in committed salaries. They shed a million trading Smith to the Mavs.
I guess Hinrich, Gasol, and Mirotic agree to contracts that fit into the 16 mil space they will have.
Really? I didn't think they would have even 2M left. I thought amnesty of Boozer would result in about 13M in cap space if they also waived James, Brewer, Amundson? With Pau at 6.5 & Mirotic at 5.5, that's only 1M left. Trade Smith and that's 1M more for 2M. Then they have to sign Kirk? Am I missing something?
Mirotič better play well.
No. I came to about the same number.
They'll also have the room exception.
Not talking about cap space, but actual pay. True, this number will be reduce if someone puts a bid in for Boozer, which is highly likely?
I thought Boozer was due $17ish million this year? Or does amnestying not give you the player's entire salary space back?
I'd say so. Boozer, while not worth 16M is still a very solid offensive big man and some team I am sure would be willing to pay him a little money to get him on their team.
Did I hear on the radio that HHSNBN is a Maverick now?![]()
NBA. What is the point of even having the rule then?
I'm shocked no team has signed Baynes to an offer sheet. I would have thought teams would be gaga over this stud by now. Maybe Pop didn't showcase him enough.
I would have been willing to place a sizable bet that mutually canceling the offer sheet was not possible.
