to some national media I'm saying.... Not to me. I am hoping they can get it right the rest of the season.
I don't understand the logic of this statement, when the Spurs were apparently unwilling to lose either Blair, Hill or presumably Splitter in trades that may have had some short-term benefit for the Spurs (i.e. Stoudemire).
The Spurs ARE willing to keep and mold young talent. They just want to make sure that talent is proven before they give up picks or players to get them.
I also think that there are some who believe the lack of results this trade deadline stem from a lack of action. Personally, I don't think this is the case. I'm pretty sure the Spurs would have gotten rid of their expiring contracts to improve if the other teams had bit...but other teams simply outbid them.
And the elephant in the room is RJ and his enormous contract. Having an albatross like that weighing down the team salary for this season and the next probably hamstrung the FO more than anything else.
So now what?
Well, the Spurs have to accept this as their team going forward and play to the utmost of their ability. Will it be enough to challenge in the playoffs? Who knows.
What I know is that as a Spurs fan I'll be there watching them the whole way.

By the way...I'll also take solace in a few more things going into next year.
1) That albatross of a contract turns into a pretty nice expiring deal next year. Ditto for Dice.
2) The continued growth of Blair and Hill.
3) The potential of adding an athletic 7-footer to the front line with an NBA-ready game.
That deal will expire just in time for the lockout.
I sure hope #3 comes to fruition..... l think I'll talk to nastrodamus.
I don't think RJ was ever offered to the Bulls in any deal for Thomas. Thanks for playing!
Bobcats first rounder and their young players were more enticing than Spurs package...it's that simple.
Spurs had interest but got outbid.
Possible not inevitable.
I also think that there will still be opportunity, threat of a lockout or not. Whenever there are teams that are truly in rebuilding mode and they have larger long-term contract, there's a possibility for a deal to get done.
Right now I'd say Iggy and Big Al are the two most likely, but you never know how things could change a year from now...
Yep. I think it had more to do with the draft pick than anything else. I fail to see how that contradicts what I said though.
outbid?
beside the fact that there must be something wrong about the reported trade pieces (Bobcats can't trade their first rounder IMO, theirs went to Nuggets and then to Wolves), Law and Murray are for sure not a package that's capable to outbid anything.
(the 3rd team since his draft has accepted the fact that he just isn't NBA material and Murray is likely the least effective "scorer" in the league. there is a reason why he was on 7 different teams in the last 5 years).
I know the deadline has passed, but this is the time when you find out about potential trades or trade targets that never came to pass. I saw this one in a post-deadline article on ESPN.

So the Spurs actually targeted Maggette. Now I imagine the offer included RJ, which is why nothing happened...but it brings up an interesting point.Negative spin: It felt as though the Spurs needed to be much more active at the trade deadline. The team is getting too old. I was looking for San Antonio to shake things up more. They explored deals for Amare Stoudemire and Corey Maggette but couldn't make things happen.
Might a deal for Maggette (and maybe Randolph?) be struck up again in the off-season when RJs contract becomes an expiring one? Would you be in favor of such a trade?
I hoping they didn't focus all their time on Amare and Maggette, I could have lived with RJ if we would have gotten Thomas and Salmons
2 games in a row , Salmons makes the game winning play, gets the steal from SJAXS tonight
19 pts, 5 boards, 7 assists, 2 steals
Tyrus Thomas tonight: 12 pts, 11 boards, 1 steal, 4 blks
This thread just wont die.
Ratliff had a -20 tonight.
And in only 12 minutes...
That said, his back seems to be holding up pretty well...
