I agree. The only other thing I would do is trade him to Charlotte. Jordan tried to trade Kemba for him during the trade deadline. He would be more than willing to do it again since Kemba has an expiring contract. Let Kawhi and his uncle suffer for a year dealing with MJ.

It'd be pretty much impossible for the Lakers to open a max slot next summer again if they spend their cap space on a couple of max FAs now. Trading him somewhere else makes it very difficult for him to end up in Lakers unless they strike out on FAs this summer.

It's going to come out years later that this injury scam was a forced move by Kawhi and his entourage to save face while blaming the Spurs organization for his departure. I don't think he was ever in love with the Spurs organization post Duncan era and he was looking for any excuse to get out of here. The injury excuse was the perfect scapegoat.

I heard this story a few months ago from a friends cousin who drives an Uber in San Antonio originally.

I never posted it because no sources and figured it was bull , but the guy said he was driving some insider Spurs exec who explained to him that the original reports about a disconnect were not true BUT the players only meeting was completely true and a complete show headed by Tony parker. Guys questioning if he was really hurt and whatnot which pissed off Kawhi who said if he could play he would be playing. Following with Kawhi being so pissed at Parker that he didn't want to play with him and also a little upset with Manu (who sided with Parker).

Still don't know if that's true but maybe makes a little more sense.
