WTF? i thought everyone wanted us to get younger? To get younger we have to let go of the old guys, we can't keep everyone.

Officially now, the team is worse than last year's and significantly worse than the championship team of 2007.
    Because Barry is gone...

    Or because Horry is gone?

We will all be laughing at this 10+ page thread over Barry leaving next season. He's not important to the Spurs at this stage of his career. It's not like he's going to help the Rockettes get past the first round of the playoffs. That's not going to happen, you can quote me on that.

This reminds me when people went bat about the Spurs trading away Jakie Butler. Yes, people where cursing the Spurs for trading Mr. Butler.

That's how insane some people are.

I'm gonna miss seeing that sweet shot in a Spurs uniform and I'll really miss his quotes and positive energy. Sad to see him go, but its probably time and he is 36 years old.

chill man.. it's reverse psychology... i may be the one about to cry gonna really miss bones :skull
That's called "[emotional] projection", not reverse psychology... but I'm just being pedantic, really. I'm projecting too, because I'm really going to miss Bones.

    We'll always have the memories.

Cut the effing drama, whiners. The Spurs mgt. knows what they are doing better than we do, and they evaluate talent better than we do, and they are presumably doing the best they can with limited cap space to bring in an upgraded roster. Quit the whining about Barry leaving, the hating on Finley. Its okay to criticize, its every fan's right. But put a sock in it after awhile! Shut up!

    Have some faith already!

Thanks to Barry for what he did while he was here!

But age and a bad calf, not to mention almost being traded for JR Smith and then traded this year - well, the writing has been on the wall for a while now.

I am reminded of a song:

    I ain't tellin' no lie.
    Mine's a tale that can't be told,
    My freedom I hold dear;
How years ago in days of old
    When magic filled the air,
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor
I met a girl so fair,
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up
    And slipped away with her.
    Her, her....yea.
Ain't nothing I can do, no.

Gonna ramble on, sing my song
    Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world
I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby
    I can't find my bluebird!
I'd listen to my bluebird sing but I can't find my blue bird
    A-keep-a ramblin' baby...

Off the point, but have any of you fellow posters in here that are in their 40's and up noticed that they know lyrics of songs from 20 yrs ago much better than new songs that they have even heard 100 times on the radio and on your ipods? I buy new stuff all the time, but I just do not memorize the lyrics like I used to. I digress, sorry.

The Rockets are really starting to piss me off.

Spurs is full of ancient players. They not need Barry. They also not need these old players like Finley and Thomas. They need get some young players. Hill and Mason is decent start at this.

Horry is just done. I agree his brain was great, but man the Spurs palyed four on five last season in the playoffs with him on the court. It was painful how bad he was at times. His defense was still there once or twice in the post season but otherwise he was just plain done.
In Horry's case, his decline was all too obvious on too many occasions. He wanted to attribute his bad season to injury. Yet he was absent at the start of the season (family matter), injured for a large part of his return and out of shape for the rest. He was incredibly slow to the ball and late for rebounds, as it appeared he could no longer move his feet. It appeared as though his body and mind were simply no longer in sync. If that wasn't convincing enough, I knew when I saw Robert Horry passing up open shots, the way he did during the Fakers series, that he was done.

I honestly feel the Spurs are going back to their defensive roots, and he doens't fit in with that scenario. .
If the Spurs are truly going back to their defensive roots, then Finley surely doesn't fit that mold either. He needs to go the way of Stoudamire and Horry.

These guys were great, and they may have a tiny bit left in the tank but you have to move on at some point. The Spurs gave them a shot last season and it was just painful to watch their vets play at times. While Barry was by far the best he also spent much of the season sidelined due to an injury that occured twice in the year. You have to take his possible health issues into consideration as well.
I agree with you. The Spurs probably gave these guys one season too many - and they paid for it. The results (or lack thereof) were evident during the playoffs, where the bench contributions (sans Manu) were as weak and woefully inconsistent as we've ever seen during these championship years.

It is sad, but real. Older players tend to become more injury-prone. Many of which can no longer contribute every night. As I've stated many times, the athlete is often the LAST to know how far his skills have declined. However one thing is certain: the longer you hang around, the more likely you're not going to leave on your own terms. I'm glad the FO has finally sought to address this.
