Look, even if there is no third team, Detroit can still get a good deal. They get to keep their cap relief still (which they have with Sheed), they get a bigman prospect, they get under the luxury tax and they get 3 million in luxury tax sharing.

If you can have cap space or cap space + young prospect + avoid luxury tax + get 3 million, which would you choose?

This all depends on whether or not either A) Pistons are just cutting losses this year or B) there is a third team.

Nothing on Pistons forums yet. I have about 30% belief in this. It's absolutely too good to be true.

But the problem for us is that the Spurs aren't the only team out there that can offer tax relief. All it takes is one other team out there who can offer the same tax relief and better return talent.

Horry is a free agent and the Spurs have full bird rights on him. They can sign him for anything up to the max. The 105% would come into play if he were still under contract and signing an extension.

Also, the 85% is from the old CBA.
Forgot that he'd be Full Bird. Nice.

Well, the Gasol steal atleast shed some salary for Memphis and got them Marc Gasol.

But Finley and Fab for ing Sheed? That doesn't shed salary, that doesnt give them young talent or draft picks, thats just front office COLLUSION!

Im writing a letter to David Stern if this goes down.

Don't worry, after the Gasol trade a very prominent NBA coach recommended that the league form some kind of a committee to review lopsided trades.............

That is true. But many might not want Sheed or he does not help (since he would be a rental). Sheed really only helps a contender so that narrows down the list.

Not to mention, I am sure the Pistons respect Sheed and knowing he wants to play for the Spurs, would take that into consideration all things being equal

The Gasol trade actually made sense when you think about it.

Gasol still had quite a few years left on his K and MEM wanted an expiring to get out from under it. They got a good serviceable C in his brother Marc and capspace.

This trade, according to what's been reported here, makes almost no sense for DET. But they did choose ing Darko Milicic over Carmelo so anything is possible I guess.

The point is that the trade isn't being reported here as anything detailed. It's just saying that Fab and Finley are PART of a trade that involves the Spurs getting back Rasheed. The trade could involve a third team as well as multiple other players from the Spurs. No one is saying that the Spurs are getting Rasheed just for Fab and Finley ONLY - that's just the thread le.

When they traded for Marc, he was an unknown. Getting Ian or Tiago, they could be just as servicable as Marc and they get cap space as well and they get luxury tax relief and money from the pool.

Also, Memphis was not in danger of losing Gasol for nothing.

I wouldn't think they would be talking about it on Detroit station, since it was just one person with an inside source talking to a San Antonio station.

I still don't think it will happen, but hopefully the Spurs do something. I don't think they can go into playoff battle with the bigs they have.

I wouldn't trade Ginobili for Sheed straight up.
