The Spurs' push for Wallace will likely only include phone calls from Duncan and Pop with an invite to San Antonio. No big splash is needed. Wallace can see the gaping bigman hole on the Spurs and can clearly see how and where he'd fit in.

The reports today indicate the C's being more aggressive in communicating their contact with Sheed to the media.

The Spurs are not an open book.

    Relax.

+1. This..is very true. For all we know the "media" is hyping Sheed to Boston because thats exactly what the media wants.

Spurs are the hardest team to read when it comes to what player they are pursuing and how they are doing it.

    Celtics continue to recruit Wallace

Here’s how badly the Boston Celtics believe Rasheed Wallace(notes) can be the difference in winning an 18th NBA championship next season: Coach Doc Rivers and the Big Three were planning a recruiting trip to woo him, possibly as early as Wednesday afternoon, league sources said.

The Celtics are targeting Wallace with the midlevel exception and sources say the team – which could be willing to pay a steep luxury tax – is also pursuing Phoenix’s Grant Hill(notes). Sources say that Celtics management met with Wallace late last night, and that they would be followed with a visit from the coach, as well Kevin Garnett(notes), Paul Pierce(notes) and Ray Allen(notes). Garnett and Wallace have a close relationship.

Boston officials are convinced that these next 24 to 48 hours are critical in overtaking the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference, and eventually, the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.

Wallace, who turns 35 in September, is the free agent power forward that most of the contenders covet, including Cleveland, Orlando, San Antonio and Dallas.

Note that the "Odom to SA!!!" rumor, which is economically impossible, is all over L.A. media today. They have their own agenda.

One thing Boston has over San Antonio is that Sheed is an East Coast guy.

But I'm don't see Sheed as that good of a fit with the Celtics. With Sheed and KG combined, you'll have two bigs who don't like posting up and who'd rather shoot from the perimeter.

I still read somewhere that Sheed isnt so sure about the ego's up in Boston and the "Rondo situation." That being said, Sheed's starting spot is waiting for him here! In Boston he'll just be a bench guy. Like I said before....

Spot on, they will both be taking 18' jumpers and Perkins will have to do all of the dirty work.

One other thing to note is that Rasheed Wallace will not be reading this forum in order to help him weigh his decision, and we know sufficiently little about him to gauge his personal priorities.

That opens the middle for Rondo and Pierce to drive though. Both defensive big men have to leave the lane. Pierce and Rondo kill single coverage off the dribble. And Rondo is great dishing out off the drive.

Nah, just let Sheed and KG shoot jumpers. They'll hit maximum 50% and never go to the free throw line. Works for me.

The other wonderful thing about Sheed and KG shooting a bunch of jumpers is that inevitable stretch when clangitis becomes contagious and a team needs easy buckets to get back in a rhythm. Oh, the defense is packing the lane and letting Sheed shoot 18-footers? Clang! Maybe Ray Allen can get hot.

Dude, we're in compe ion with the Celtics, ring comparisons won't win it for us
As for Wallace, strap in Spurs’ fans, this will get dicey. It’s believed San Antonio, Orlando and Boston are at the top of the list to land the services of the 4-time All-Star. Despite some reporting the Spurs as the frontrunner, don’t count on it.
Didn’t Corey Maggette have San Antonio at the top of his list last year, too?
That was until Golden State gave him a 5-year deal worth nearly $50 million. Maggette is not quite the scorer that Gordon is but he’s a better all around talent who can play a couple of positions.
Regardless, the Warriors’ offer took the Spurs out of the discussion before settling for Roger Mason.
While Mason was a good value signing, he’s not near the talent of a Corey Maggette. But he was the right price.
With Kevin Garnett personally seeking out Wallace, expect Boston to steal the mercurial power forward forcing San Antonio to plan B, which some speculate will involve Wallace’s Detroit teammate Antonio McDyess. Whether it's plan B, C or D it'll be surprising to see Wallace choose the Spurs over Garnett or Orlando. In either case, he'll make about the same money and play in a much easier conference.
You can take a night off in the East and make the playoffs, the West is a different animal.
    Regardless

    Argument 1:

It’s believed San Antonio, Orlando and Boston are at the top of the list to land the services of the 4-time All-Star. Despite some reporting the Spurs as the frontrunner, don’t count on it.

Don't count on it. Not much of an argument here. so let's move on.

    Argument 2:

Didn’t Corey Maggette have San Antonio at the top of his list last year, too?
That was until Golden State gave him a 5-year deal worth nearly $50 million. Maggette is not quite the scorer that Gordon is but he’s a better all around talent who can play a couple of positions.
Regardless, the Warriors’ offer took the Spurs out of the discussion before settling for Roger Mason.
While Mason was a good value signing, he’s not near the talent of a Corey Maggette. But he was the right price.

Rasheed Wallace = Corey Maggette. This isn't very compelling either. In large part because now, Peter Holt has committed to paying what is necessary to make the Spurs a championship contender now. At that time, he didn't think it was necessary to spend to win. He now does.

Two, Wallace would be a starter for the Spurs.

Three, the other teams aren't likely to offer more for Rasheed Wallace than we are.

    So, this argument fails.

    Argument 3:

With Kevin Garnett personally seeking out Wallace, expect Boston to steal the mercurial power forward forcing San Antonio to plan B, which some speculate will involve Wallace’s Detroit teammate Antonio McDyess. Whether it's plan B, C or D it'll be surprising to see Wallace choose the Spurs over Garnett or Orlando. In either case, he'll make about the same money and play in a much easier conference.
You can take a night off in the East and make the playoffs, the West is a different animal.

    Assumptions in this assertion:

    (a) KG's impact is greater than Tim Duncan's, (b) Pop's influence is less than Doc Rivers, (c) the East is less than the West, and (d) Rasheed is afraid of compe ion.

None of a-d is certain, most of them are dubious at best. So, since the supporting claims for argument 3 are simply assertions, argument 3 is really simply an assertion.

    Argument 4: Regardless.

This argument gets to the nuts and bolts of the discussion. I can't prove my assertions, the writer says, and I just don't like the Spurs.

    And that is weak.

At last, the fact (about the writer of the article): I just don't like the Spurs and I can't support my conclusion at all. It's not even convincing to me (the writer).

    Fail. Just Fail.

BTW, how many of Boston's les have been won with any of their big 3 there ?

How many of San Antonio's les have been won with Tim here ? How many of San Antonio's les have been won with our big 3 ?

    Thank you.

I think that we're done here now.

Very true. KG isnt a post player anymore. Everyone re-watch the 08' Finals and notice he just roamed around the perimeter. Sheed would probably do the same there. The only one who takes it to the hole is Rondo and Pierce sometimes. Here TP, Manu, and now RJ will take it to the hole to open up Sheed and TD.

I have no idea what will happen. I do know Rasheed won't start in Boston but he will get the same minutes as if he was starting, or the same minutes he would get with the Spurs.

His impact would be the same with either team.

As far as the Rondo stuff- it's all overblown. The Boston media is always in a frenzy and ran with some mild stuff. Rondo's staying. Everybody hugged and made up.

I think San Antonio and Boston would be equally good destinations for Rasheed. The two teams are in remarkably similar positions. I don't see much advantage or disadvantage either way.

If there's a reason he chooses Boston it's because of his close friendship with Garnett. But if he chooses San Antonio I'm sure he'd be successful there as well.

Hate to say it, but if I had to bet I'd say Rasheed would rather hang out with Garnett, Pierce, and Allen over Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker. I know he's older and a bit more mature now, but I still think of the strained relationship he had with Sabonis in Portland and how he and Bonzi were the terrible twosome behavior-wise for the Jailblazers era.

I don't think it should come down to that. TD & Sheed are friends as well, He loves Pop as a coach. We got some ballas Sheed can hang with in Mase, Blair, TP, and Mclinton. . Besides, it should come down to where and with who does he think he can play and win with, playing time, and thats about it. Come on Sheed!
