Great news to get him over. His record and reputation works for itself. It will undoubtedly take him some time to learn the system, but who better to go up against in practice than Tim Duncan?

Sign him up. Get him in ASAP.

This means that the full MLE couldn't be all for Splitter's salary, then, which would cause the raises to be slightly smaller?

Also makes it less likely that there will be any of the MLE left once Splitter signs.
You're getting ahead of yourself here.

First we need to find out what Splitter's deal is for.

There is more than one way for Splitter to pay a buyout if it comes to that.

    Isn't that three ways?
    No, one way.

Exceling in all three parts is the ONE way that we can become contenders.

Homey if you talk to anyone without a Spurs-bias (and we all have spurs bias to one extent or another) one of the biggest knocks on our team was our blind faith to playing Matt Bonner. He goes and indisputably proves he is a playoff choker and we are about to re-sign him for four ing years and more money than he already made.

It's the biggest contract abortion of a FO move by this team I've seen since I've been following this team very closely.

If we give him that kinda money, it prob means we get rid of people that actually contribute like Dice, someone I would not mind see retiring as a Spur. You, me, everyone on this board except in TPark KNOWS that we have no chance at accomplishing anything of note with Matt Bonner earning minutes as the big man stretching the floor.

No. Chance. You know its true.
    So sad. So true.

Uh, I thought Splitter didn't have a buyout this year if he went to an NBA team. At most, I thought it was a small set amount. WTF?

See, this is why you don't celebrate Splitter coming until the ink is dry
Don't worry that's just stupid McDonald trying to get a excuse because EN got ed again

    JMcDonald_SAEN
Contrary to reports, #spurs deal for Splitter not done. Still have to barter over Spanish Lg. buyout. Can be mere formality, but not always

Send him to Austin for 5 years

Then he will be old enough to crack Pop's rotation

Splitter has a $1M buyout for the nba this summer. If he doesn't use it, Tau has an option to extend his contract until 2012.
Splitter has said that he wants to play in nba so he will likely come in NBA next year.
Euro's contracts aren't set in stone at all. You can imagine Tau and Splitter re-working on his contract to keep him next year with a quite big salary and allow him to leave Tau for the nba in 2009 for $500K.

After the endless Scola's buyout story, I won't consider Splitter as a sure thing as long as he ahsn't signed his contract with Spurs.

I guess that a part of Splitter's contract will be paid at the signing of the contract. The max allowed by the CBA for this signing bonus is 20% of the contract. When you add the additional $500K Spurs can give for the buyout, Splitter should have no problem to buy out his contract. He won't even need some kind of loans to do so.

The Express News article also said Splitter's salary was with Caja was $1.76MM. I thought that salary number was a lot higher and that was why he did not come over in 2008.

The number I read about in the past for him was $4MM (tax free).

    Credibility lost.

    Nice fail job there sparky.
    Credibility lost?

Where is your credibility? All I've see you do is toe the company line since that epic playoff gaffe.

Since you're not the only one to bag on Jeff Van Gundy, I want to know what makes JV so bad?

Popovich has 4 rings but he's F'ing crazy and stubborn as a senior citizens home full of mules.

If you actually stop and think about Jeff Van Gundy or another legitimate candidate, how could he possibly be any worse than a guy who:

    - Refused to take out George Hill while Steve Nash set the tone to the PHX series by scoring uncontested layups at will
    - Stood by Michael Finley and gave him real PT
    - Played Roger """Money""" Mason at point guard and continued to play him despite Mason shooting below 30%
    - Starts Matt Bonner in the NBA. How do you trot out Matt Bonner (AT CENTER) and expect to win an NBA le?
    - Refuses to play young talent because they might make a mistake. Instead, goes with the same tired old horses and loses.
    - Benched and then got rid of Malik Rose for a reason no one is really sure of to this day

I know everyone here is used to Pop at the helm, but it's come to the point where it's time for a change. Pop is fcking nuts and has the pedigree to prove it. I'm sure some of you could triple my list of examples.

Listening to Van Gundy call NBA games, at least I know he would use some common sense. For example, Matt Bonner is getting abused, maybe I ought to sub for him.

Popovich had a good run, but now his powerful control of the Spurs operation is hurting the Spurs more than it's helping.

He just signed off on Matt Bonner getting a 4 year deal. That's insane.

Look at the evidence piling up - it's time to stop suggesting a new coach is crazy and start thinking it's crazy not to consider other possibilities (whether JVG or someone else).

I think it'll take a while to Splitter press conference happen. He's in honeymoon and Brazilian NT starts their preparation to the FIBA World Championship on July 19th so I think he'll be in San Antonio only after the tournament
