The aspect of his game I thought he could help the most in was with his midrange jumper within the PnR, which is non existent...

Also he has no ability to score in the paint, his immediate reaction is to pass the ball if he catches it down low.

Ayres and Bonner will be extended. We will cry foul but there will be those who will praise and justify the signing...

His immediate reaction is to dunk the ball. He's also shown the ability to use the rim, and come up on the other side for a layup. He also has a left hand, unlike Baynes.

He CAN pass out to the perimeter, about 10% of the time by my count.

This is just another stupid assertion that demonstrates you need to pay better attention.

Baynes can shoot with either hand. He uses it out of the right block frequently. That you do not note that says to me you are clueless as to what you are watching. This notion is reinforced by your gobbling of Ayres from the get go. Ayres doesn't even have a post game.

The Spurs have been spoiled with greatly skilled bigs recently. Fans who dogged Blair and continue to dog Splitter don't realize that. Ayres' hands suck for a Spurs player, but they are fine for a big. How many bounce passes do DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard receive? Few, because it's standard to pass the ball high to bigs because they aren't supposed to be able to catch down low. Blair, Splitter and Duncan have soft hands. They're also great passers for their position, as well as Diaw, obviously. Ayres is also a tremendous passing big. He'd be the best on most teams. He had great vision and can put the ball where it needs to be. But that's like saying Mills would be the best shooter on most teams.

I'm not saying Ayres hasn't been disappointing or even that he belongs on the team. But he isn't all that bad. If he could shoot, he'd look a lot better. I have no idea what Chip did to his shot.

He also needs defense and self control.

I meant his back to the basket/post up skills; he has gotten better at finishing at the rim after receiving a pass.

agree about his passing. tbf and give credit where it's due, I've seen him make some great passes. It just seems him catching a pass is laughable at this moment, but perhaps we've been spoiled by the types who have great hands.
My biggest problem with Ayres is that time is running out on the big 3 era, and so that makes this project player more frustrating, because you want to see the development ahead of the curve since that clock is ticking.

It's not that he's a project. It's that he's an OLD project. And that he's the fourth big. If Ayres were pushed down just one spot in the rotation, he'd be much more valuable. He's fine as a third center, but not as a backup power-forward.

He's approaching 30 and is that ty. He's been in the league for a spell and is still that ty. He makes more money than some players who have better overall game. He doesn't play defense, he fouls way too much even after the play is over. He can't rebound consistently.

    Ayres is younger than Baynes.

Never said baynes was better... Given that Ayres has 49 games under his belt with 10 starts and 100+ more minutes this season than baynes. Can't expect anything from limited minutes.

If you go out and get a big to leap frog baynes at least target someone who is better

Imo, Ayres is a PF playing the C. Pair him with Timmy or Splitter, and he'd probably play slightly better than he has.

Imo, Ayres is a YMCA player playing in the NBA. Pair him with Timmy or Splitter, and he'd probably still suck as much as he already does. #KillAyres

Can't wait for the Errors/Boner/Daye/Cojo/Brown lineup to be in the game.

It's coming and we all know it to a spurs theatre nearby.. And not just garbage time either. Brown will be annointed "The centerpiece part deux" and will most likely become Pop's latest and greatest experimental point guard gadget guy. Popsuckers will rave about what a shrewd move it was even if Brown can't dribble more than twice without bouncing it off his foot. As long as he can hoist up 3's and make all the Patty haters their shorts it'll all be good.

I hate that fat Blair but resigning him would have been a better alternative to Ayres,
