I'll take a good look at her and myself and ask her what she thinks we should/could do about it.

Oh, this is where it gets even better. I asked her this very question and she told me she was going to start throwing up everything she ate so she could get skinny like the other girl so he'd like her instead.

Kinda gives you warm fuzzies, doesn't it?

I'm just glad she told me that first before she actually tried something crazy like that....she had no clue that it could kill her and no unrealistic, rude jackass on the planet was worth something like that.

I'm glad she said something before she tried it, too. Give your daughter a hug for me, I've been there. Learning the hard way to stop yourself from those kinds of behaviors is scary to say the least.

Honestly, I don't know much about eating disorders. I've learned more, and I know the basics but I'm not very well versed on them.

But I do believe - and I emphasise this is my opinion and nothing more - that while men get much of the blame in regards to the pressure that is placed on women in regards of beauty, it is actually women that bear the brunt of the blame.

Honestly, if women stayed in reasonable shape, dressed nice, had long hair and wore high heels just for men (or for themselves) and not to compete against or one-up other women, you would see a lot more married women doing those things. But you don't.

You don't have to look like a 10 all the time, but you shouldn't live in a gigantic sweatshirt 24/7/365 and have a haircut shorter than the beetles.

I'm sorry to hear about the problem that SW has with her daughter. That sucks. But she needs to know that words are just words, and anyone who dismisses her rudely wouldn't be worthy of her affection. But rejection generally has the opposite effect...

it is actually women that bear the brunt of the blame.

You're right. If we all got in cahoots and let ourselves go and wore head-to-toe burlap, dyed our hair the same color and cut the same length, and gained no less than 40 pounds during childbirth equally...the world would be a much nicer place.

She knows, but the heart and the ego are extremely fragile...and what he told her is being backed up by just about everything she sees on TV. So it's like me against the world trying to teach her differently.

But then I pose a question to those same women. How many of you have VS hanging in your closet or in your drawers? How many of you have supported what they have done with your money?
Honestly, I have lots - their bras fit the best, plain and simple. I don't resent VS for their advertising. They are obviously going after a certain market and they're very successful. There are other successful clothing companies like Talbot's and Chico's that go after different markets and advertise accordingly. I do think that some of the models that VS uses look way too skinny, but others have a little more meat and look healthy, i.e. Tyra Banks.

You know, the thing is women obsess about their looks far beyond the point of things males notice. And while yes, there are assholes out there (just as there are women who are supreme shallow es), most guys don't complain about the things that women think we are focused on.

Women dress and do the things the way they do a good deal of the time to impress other women or to meet standards they set for themselves. And hey, thats fine, but I hate to see men get blame for that.

Not a day goes by that I don't tell Jessica how gorgeous she is, and I've never once lied about it.

Your opinion is void due to your marketing knowledge. You understand how it works.

I do know one thing, however. If I were a woman there is no way in I would buy anything or wear anything from them after I saw the manequin with ribs. that. But I digress, I don't want this turning into a Wal-Mart thread.

Eventually after getting your heart kicked the crap out of a few times you realize that you can either continue to deal with crappy people who are very attractive or find someone who is considerate and nice and still looks decent. I'm sure you can help steer her to the right decision.

I'm sure it's already been said but...

I don't think it's all men wanting women to be thinner...I think that women are more responsible for it than men.

Don't get me...wrong, we don't want pigs...but I've never wanted a girl with washboard abs...that is all women there.

When talking about bodies, I think most guys like s more than anything(real ones) and legs, and being overly thin doesn't exactly help those two attributes.

You look at the true sex icons of females, that are considered icons by men...none of them are thin girls...Marylin Monroe wasn't thin...Jennifer Lopez isn't thin.

Just because the media pushes some stereotype on you doesn't mean the men are the cause of it...most of the time the media is doing it they are trying to get the attention of women, trying to sell them something.

I know many times I have been with my girl and when we see an attractive woman who isn't thin...the first thing my girl says is that she's heavy and a little on the thick side or something like that...On top of that she's always on a diet, even though I tell her she doesn't need to do it...especially when she says her s are too big...I am like, don't you dare.

Don't try and pass this off on the men...

What's next? You blame us because you no longer will get into a swimming pool after dating for 2 months, because you don't want to mess up your hair? I call bull .

It's all in the package...there is no set formula for what makes a beautiful woman...they come in all shapes and sizes. This drive for ultra thinness is primairly a female/media driven thing IMO. It's true that we don't want pigs...but I don't know any guy that get excited over a stick.

I'm one of those guys that used to be pretty judgmental when it came to looks.

Luckily I married a woman who was as gorgeous on the inside as she was on the outside, and since then I've learned a lot about what makes someone truly attractive.

But I remember what women go through to look good. Mrs. Chopper was a Ms. Hawaiian Tropic national finalist back in the day and her contest and pageant money helped us get through grad school. She still will worry about her looks, which shocks me because she still has a small tight body that most 20 year olds would envy.

I love curves though, and the older I get the more I appreciate a woman with a real figure. Every woman is physically made up different and that's what makes them so amazing.

The media does hype the tiny little bodies, and I can see why young kids buy into that. I did.
