Roster construction.
CIA Pop said, and Kemba echoed that dinners and bonding will be a large determining factor over who is on the squad and who isn't. I'm pulling for a win but I hope Pop doesn't get his ass handed to him with some Wombat Leader coffee stuff. OTOH we just had a thread on how Spurs are the only team with a winning record vs every other team.
Just that rolling out the ball to Tim Dunkan or MVPKawhi 2017 is no longer an option.
I hope on top of everything else Melo has not blown thru his money.
He's so delusional.
I wouldn't be surprised. Carmelo has probably spent a lot of money trying to keep up with his peers, and was probably expecting another big pay-day.
I'm sure he got a ton of advertising money in NY though, but it's also not hard to spend a ton of money if you aren't careful.
good.
The is up with these dudes?
scared by the inevitability of WHITE!
Focus on the upcoming season!? Do these guys actually think they have a shot at winning a championship lol
they're lazy coddled players
Right it's not like the Kings are going to compete for a championship. if they even make it to the playoffs they are first round and out team this year.
I can understand the established elite players with nothing to prove dropping out, but some of these role players/young guys/fringe stars dropping out has to raise red flags. Not the type of dudes I'd want as foundation guys. I mean, you show out on the Select Team, earn a promotion to the Senior Team and then you drop out? Where's the hunger and desire to prove yourself even further?
Would not shock me if, for most guys, dropping out has more to do with partying, getting high, etc before the season starts than it does with actually getting ready for said season.
Okay, now it's officially getting weird. Bagley was fine on the select team, but drops out as soon has he gets promoted to the senior team?
only 3 more to go and White will make the team.
Select team commitment was like a week. This is far more, if he ends up making the team and going to China.
Four days plus the scrimmage. That's not the issue. He's just come off his rookie season, and he plays for the damn Kings. For him, it should have at least been worth thinking about. Buthe withdrew almost as soon as it was announced that he'd been promoted to the senior team.
If an experienced guy agrees to just help train up the team and no more, that's one thing. But for someone like him, just being asked to be on the select team was sort of a big deal. He didn't even pretend to have to think about it. A lot of the early dropouts said things like "regret" and "respectfully decline". These guys are running away from the main team like it's radioactive now. Even rookies.
Playing for this country ain't what it used to be. I wouldn't bother, either.
A likely explanation is he wanted to participate for the 1-2 weeks vs the whole tournament (select team). Most players do not want to spend over a month away from homes so close to training camp.
LOL... ya think? That's like Sherlock Holmes level thinking.
Look, he's 20 years old. This time two years ago he was finishing high school. He doesn't have a wife or kids, and he plays for a ty team. He's got the chance to possibly earn his way onto the Olympic Team in two years by playing. If they're having trouble getting even someone like him to play, then it's officially getting weird.
Like I said.
Non USA
Belinelli made the cut down to 15 for Italy.
Metu is on a very large Nigeria roster. Chimezie did toss in a very long 3P halftime buzzer beater in a friendly against Canada.
Mills is on the final 12 man Australia roster, now likely first string PG with Simmons not participating.
Milutinov made the cut down to 14 for Serbia, behind Jokic and Marjanovic.
Printezis made the cut down to 16 for Greece.
Lyles turned down the Canada team invite.
I'm really surprised by all the guys turning down Canada.
I can get some of the US players feeling like World Cup is beneath them, but Canada hasn't proven anything on a world stage and could field a compe ive team if they guys actually wanted to show up to play. Even a bronze would be a big deal for the Canadian NT.
