I always thought that it was to balance things out? Putting him with the 1st unit vs the bench would be a fcking rape tbh.
But he has been playing with the second unit in every pic and footage linked from training. I want to see how he runs the Gasol pick n roll.

Practices and scrimmages are pretty dynamic too. I bet that coaches use lots of lineups combinations looking for what works the best. In the vid that BillMc posted, you can see Kawhi playing w/ Tony, Danny, Pau and switching between D.Lee/Bertans.

There are some guys who don't change teams, but Kiwi/Anderson and Lee/Bertans do switch a lot. The others in the background, all the camp invites and such I have seen with different colors in uniform. I think only the set spots don't change: Tony, Patty Manu, Pau, LMA, Dedmon, Danny.

The Lee/Bertans swaps can be (like where was LMA?) (Bertans taking minutes? a lot of pot stirring)

The Kiwi/Anderson swaps are a lot less controversial. I do think they are necessary to strengthen the bench for a scrimmage purpose. The most interesting switch to me is Lee/Bertans bc I think the bench will be better with Bertans than with Lee and I have written a masters thesis about it. Also to get real looks at Bertans, Pop had to "bench" LMA so there is something there.

Another good post. I don't believe the trade rumors but its weird how little LMA seems to be playing now.

Lee and Bertans are so radically different as players they may be good control variables to see how others play with different spacing.

Master thesis? You've earned your PHD in Lee vs Bertans. (And Kyle vs ST Trolls)

Haven't looked at raw numbers, but Dedmon hasn't looked to me like a solid guy boxing out and rebounding in the little we've seen so far. I thought Lee did better at that, and he just might be more valuable for that reason alone, despite the obvious limitations.

It looks to be the balance between better defense (hard to say that about Lee right? he helps on the boards that is it), vs a team scoring more easily.

We likely haven't seen enough, really not enough of a good sample and Bertans is getting experience with each game. Something to keep an eye on.

Despite a few dunks here and there, it looks like Dedmon doesn't have his core or legs quite under him yet. Not sure what all he did this offseason but I've caught him on several occasions this preseason grabbing his knees on a lot of dead balls too. Once he gets back in great shape, and has his legs under him a little better it should help his presence and balance in contested scenarios in the painted area. Not too thrilled that he came into camp like this either, but what can you do.

Did you notice how thin Dedmon's legs are? His legs are as thin as LJC, yet he has to carry a bigger body.

He is also not that tall. He's as tall as Bertans, so I don't know how effective he is against the likes of Adams and Marc Gasol.
