He had been doing better before Mavs game and by the sound of it (didnt watch it) he was passing up open shots again. I cant see that lasting forever. Its not that hes missing them, hes not taking them and theres a reason, mainly that he wants to upfake and drive and breakdown the D and hes confused about the space he needs to do that vs just taking the shot. Eventually though hes going to see that being THIS passive is going to cost him his shot at playing in the NBA and he'll start letting them fly. Hes got to

Having said that, we're winning and hes good on D so hes got time to fix it.

It's a damn shame, I tell you. I don't even know where the Spurs go from here with regards to him. Sometimes he does things right, sometimes he looks like he's playing in Beginner mode while everyone else is on Pro mode.

It's like those guys you see on the Summer League or D-League and say "damn, let me write this name down, I'm gonna check him out when he hits an NBA team", but then when that moment arrives is like a "paint yo face, clown" moment.

Pop always had kind things to say about him (and teammates too), but his lack of production and failure to establish a niche role by his third season, I think forced him to look elsewhere. Bertans started up and down, but if Kyle blinks, that race might be over soon too.

It's weird, the Spurs sent him back from the SL thinking they had something there. I can't think this is what they expected.

Here, how about this. Anderson is getting 13.7 MPG. In 13-14, Jeff Ayers got 13 minutes per game. Did anyone have any problem analyzing Ayers, and deciding that he sucked? Was that too small of a sample size?

How about we look at Kyle's numbers vs. Ayers, who was getting slightly less MPG?

    FGA
    Ayers - 2.4
    KA - 2.3

    TRB
    Ayers - 3.5
    KA - 2.6

    AST
    Ayers - .8
    KA - 1.0

    PTS
    Ayers - 4.3
    KA - 2.9

EFG% (Takes into account Kyle's "great" 3P shooting percentage)
    Ayers - .580
    KA - .480

You keep saying what a good player he is, but his numbers say he's Jeff Ayers with a big head. I don't give a if they play different positions - Kyle has the ball in his hands a of a lot more than Ayers ever did.

Those numbers are fine for a defensive player.

Ayres wasn't nearly as bad as people remember him. He just couldn't catch to save his life. But Kyle's a much better defender.

I know you know hoops, Chinook. And sometimes we just see things differently. But I will say that I really expected Kyle to hit his stride this year, and play with the confidence and awareness of a guy who has been through two playoff runs with a very good team. I didn't expect him to get significant playoff minutes last season, but I thought when he came back this year he would be up to earning 25 minutes a game. I had higher hopes for him than this.

I do think that the idea we can't really assess him because of small sample size is poop. Besides that, if he had improved as much as I hoped, he would be getting more minutes, and we probably wouldn't be having the same discussion.

You think he's a good defender. I think he's an adequate defender. But tell me the truth - do you really see him on a significant upward trajectory? Do you really see any reason for him to be moved up to the 25 MPG I was hoping for, unless someone else gets injured?

One thing is for certain. If he does get a significant bump in minutes, someone else is going to have to step up their offensive game. Because Kyle's offensive production rate (Per36 numbers) are the lowest on the team. Putting Kyle on the floor with Danny is an offensive nightmare. I don't think this team can play defense good enough to make up for that. That's not hating, that's not being wishy-washy, that's just looking at what I see, and what the numbers say.

I'm pretty sure even SAG is disappointed in Kyle this year. Any real fan has to see him being so inept at scoring as a bad thing for the team, and I simply didn't expect him to regress. I don't see him getting a bigger role if he doesn't change his at ude. The dude has a mismatch almost every time he touches the ball and has almost no interest in trying to score. And then when he does try, it's when there's almost no time left on the shot clock, and he doesn't have enough time to set anyone up.

I don't think he's on a good trajectory now. I do think he has a role he can play on the club this year even with his offensive prospects atrophying. I expected him to be one of the best defenders on the team statistically this season. But I didn't expect him to specialize in that area like he has. I don't think he should get 25mpg. But I also think that had he been the second-string PF like he was projected to be before Lee, he would be having a better season all around.

The wishy-washy bit is how this thread gets bumped back and forth by people depending on the results of the game. If Kyle were legit because of how he shut down Cleveland, he was legit when he wasn't scoring well as in a bit role against Dallas.

It's not nearly as sad as being on a basketball site and only posting in a thread about a dude who's not even in the rotation.

LOL. And you had to throw that in our faces? Yeah, he's one of those guys you want to see make it on the floor, because he seems like such a good guy.

A lot of people here complain about the Spurs not developing players. And they about Kyle not putting up shots. I wonder how many would be okay with it if Pop told him to just start chucking, and not worry about the outcome? Would they cheer for the "player development" if it meant putting up a few L's, in games they could have won? I don't know how else Pop is going to get him to loosen up. He's got a good enough stroke. I would like to think his instincts would take over, if he just starts letting some fly without worrying about anything.
