Why? Wemby is the easiest player to build around. Will be the best defender ever and an above average shooter which is ridiculous for his size.
The only way building around him would be difficult is if he demands to be a point center without improving his handles and ball security.

It's unfair to compare anyone with Wemby because his ceiling is higher than anything we've ever seen.
Will he get there is another question, but he demostrated the potential is there.

Flagg has MVP level player potential, but I don't see the outworldly athleticism Lebron had or let's say Luka's playmaking/shot creating potential.
To me, he's hard to build around because he wants to dribble around the 3 point line and play on ball as our center. He doesn't really want to play in the post. He can do lots of things obviously but he's sort of doing everything and it's hard for other players to "find their spots" because he's sort of everywhere at different times. So while his talent is unimpeachable, I think the team is still not sure how to fit around him.

Of course that can change once Fox and Castle start and at some point we get strong coaching again, but the team is still a mess trying to figure out their iden y while VW figures things out/free lances.

More simply, we need a power forward who can do everything to fill in around him: shoot outside when Wemby is close to the basket, while also having a strong inside game while VW is playing outside the arc.

Considering how awful the team looked after he went down, other players better adjust to him or get ready to be traded.
We'll see how much awkwardness on offense was due to them letting Wemby do whatever he wants while we're still not winning and how much was on bad coaching.

We barely saw him play with Fox, a lot of his iso heroball was on noone being able to collapse the defense and poor spacing.

No. He is a decent secondary creator, but nowhere near the playmaking chops of Magic.

Wait, I know some of you like to play stupid; but no one honestly thinks Cooper Flagg isn't going 1, right?

We're not drafting first overall so soon after the basketball Gods allowed us to draft Wemby. It's selfish as to even think about it tbh.
If Orlando could win back to back lotteries for Shaq and Webber I'm still gonna keep hope alive tbh

I think many people have forgotten just how impressive Zion's one year at Duke was. Flagg's impact stats lead all college players by a good margin this year, but even his #s don't compare to Zion's, who had a PER over 40, a TS% over 70%, and a BPM over 20! Flagg's at 30.9 PER, 59.7 TS%, with a BPM of 16.4, which is still historically great. Flagg has more assists than Zion though (5.6 per 40 vs 2.7 per 40) and fewer turnovers, which could be read as a sign of greater overall versatility, and is a better fit physically as a 6'9" SF than Zion is as a 6'6" PF.

Yeah but he looked like a ticking time bomb with his weight the whole time there and that's exactly what he became in the NBA. It's why I was never half as excited about him as I was for say Anthony Davis (or Flagg).

on offense, stylistically, he's like a cross of kawhi and paolo if you want modern comps. i think you can go further back and chris webber works as well.

defensively, he's good on ball but he's special as a team/help defender

That's the answer, and what makes it more challenging to fit a roster around Wemby. Certainly not an unsurmountable challenge, but certainly more challenging than Flagg who is the prototypical modern forward.

Wemby has a rare archetype, which makes it harder to build around, but he's also top .01%, so it's worth building around him. Sochan has a rare archetype, which makes it harder to build around, but he's a 50th percentile player at best, not good enough to build around (for example). Flagg has a common skill set, which is easy to build around, but he's top 1% prospect.

I think that's what The Truth is getting at, and I agree.

The big question for me is what is Wemby going to play is he a down in paint Center or a shooting from outside PF? I don’t think he wants to battle down low and I don’t think his body would hold up very long doing that full time. As far as Flagg that is something I don’t even think about it but if the Basketball Gods gift us another first you take Flagg without even thinking it is a No Brainer.

That's exactly what I've been thinking the past month. I've been thinking about De'Aaron not getting number 2 because the Spurs wanted to keep it open for the possibility of Flagg.

De’Aaron was 5 for seven years in Sacramento. Not sure why he’d want 2.

It was said that he's going to go with number 2 when he was first traded here, but not sure if he changed his mind or the Spurs asked him to take a different number, so then he went with number 4. I read that the Spurs asked him to take a different number.

I usually draw the 1 pick first try on Tankathon ever since we moved to the 8 position.
