Is there anything wrong with him that still he hasn’t got signed in despite a great showing at the S-League. He got great handles, putting people on skates. His self-creation is superb and pretty clutch on taking over games, and he has shown commitment to play defense. So why hasn’t he got a contract yet?
Maybe just because he prefers to play more for (maybe) more money. We don't know what his side thinks.

People over estimate his talent compared to NBA players. I like him and want him signed, but most fringe NBA players would dominate the summer league. That's to say that he's more likely trying to weigh a non-guaranteed contract versus a two-way than commanding multiple multi-year fully guaranteed offers. I'm not even sure the Spurs are willing to offer a Hinkie Special like they did with Champ right now, and despite what I said, DJG can justify holding out from signing a two-way or camp deal at this point.

He seems to slot in as a 'gunner'/'microwave scorer' on offense which is a role that the bench lacks (unless Vassell moves to the beach) now that Branham is gone. Now, one can argue those types aren't valued amongst teams (a lot of those archetypes are currently unsigned), and you may be right, but I like having that option off the bench.

Especially on nights when the regular 10-man rotation is doing nothing but bricking shots.

If it was a money thing,he would have gone to Olympiacos. He’d make more in Europe than a year one minimum NBA salary.

The lack of signing this guy is just baffling. I'm not of the belief that he is just good due to playing against Summer League talent...the guy can play. It isn't like he would be put into the starting rotation, he would be playing against other NBA reserves.

Afaik the Spurs haven't filled any of their last bench spots, including SL players. They seem to be waiting for something, or I don't know what.

I keep wondering if a trade is in the works that maybe requires other pieces to move first? Sometimes the league is like Tetris where everybody is waiting for that one piece to slot in and then we see significant movement all at once.

Has a two-way offer on the table from the Spurs but is waiting to see if he can get more, perhaps elsewhere.

Do we know this or is this just a guess?

Would be great to have him, but not exactly what we need unless Fox, Castle, or Harper go down.

He looks shorter than Harper, so he's not playing any SF. I would hope we are looking at forwards for the last two spots.

I am all for signing him at this point with some kind of make good deal like a two way or a two year with a team option for year two but I think one needs to remember that he has already had multiple chances and is not an unknown en y.Four year college player and in 2024 he had a two way contract with both the 76rs and the Jazz and was waived by both teams before appearing in an NBA game. Maybe an extra light came on in Mexico City and summer league but who knows. He would have an instant cult like fan following if he was signed here. I am rooting for him but one must be realistic.

Jones-Garcia is a type like Bruce Bowen, who kicked around Europe before things started to come together and he had a great career. Obviously DJG is a completely different player in terms of style and things may not work for him, but sometimes it takes time. Danny Green, too.

I understand that is a distinct possibility. I do think we should sign him . The Spurs have invested in worse.

This would be my guess as well, he's done enough to warrant a 2 way deal at least, I'd even go as far as offering him a partially guaranteed contract for multiple years, something like Champagnie or Bassey got, he's a good flyer talent wise even if probably not the best fit right now. I'd say he probably gets that deal elsewhere.

i agree, we have invested in worse. We just shipped out two of them a few weeks ago. One has already been let go. How about signing DJG to a one or two year contract with a small amount guaranteed. Like you said we've done worse. I think he at least deserves a chance, if it doesn't work out we don't lose all that much.

Signing Jones-Garcia to a Champagnie-like deal would make a lot of sense for Spurs. They have $3M left on the MLE to sign him and 2 open roster spots. It would be a low risk/high reward move.

realistically he's a 2-way talent but given that we are well past the FA frenzy and still have 2 regular roster spots left, may as well

then what to do for the final spot? dont tell me minix lol

Not that we would (or would necessarily need to) offer, but the Spurs still hold the $5.1M BAE still, correct?

Just curious what we still have to work with. If that is the case, they can hold this and absorb a traded player into it before or during the season, right?

David Jones-Garcia – All-Summer League first team breakout guard – has agreed on a two-way NBA contract with the San Antonio Spurs, agents Deirunas Visockas and Guillermo Bermejo of Gersh Sports tell ESPN. Jones-Garcia starred for the Spurs this month (22 PPG, 6 RPG, 53% on 3s).
