I'm not even disputing that it was intentional or not. I think he should be fined, but suspension is excessive.

Manu even said in the postgame that it wasn't a hard hit and it was just normal in game contact.
It is the INTENT more than the result. Just because he missed with the elbow and hit with the forearm means nothing. A couple inches another way and we have an elbow to the eye socket. He watched him come around and threw his arm out, then looked the other way deliberately. It could have been very serious. The fact that it wasn't changes nothing. One of the first times I have disagreed with the boss, but I think you are totally off on this one.

I have a test for everyone: go to your local Gold's Gym and find that guy who weighs about 260 and is all muscle (they all have one). Have him stand with his forearm out while you look to your right (as if looking for the ball) and run full speed into his forearm with the left side of your face. Try to flop it when you don't see it coming. And you even know it's coming. Then once you pick yourself up off the ground and check for loose teeth let me know.

He probably did. Everyone in the building knew Artest was going to come out aggressive in the third quarter. The Spurs were up by 60 and the Kings were being soft. Manu knew Artest was going to get a little dirty to try to send a message to the Spurs.

Manu was hit and made it look much worse than it was.

If you don't think that's the case, you must not follow the Spurs much.

yeah, Manu probly even called Stu Jackson and lobbied on the suspension

Manu can also fly and has the strenght of 10 men!!!

you guys are definitely giving too much credit to Manu. Yeah the NBA is stupid to suspend Artest, but to say that Manu's flopping has anything to do with the suspension that is funny

I agree it's about intent. I agree that it was likely intentional. I just don't think he should have been suspended. If they caught it in the game, maybe they should have ejected him. He definitely should have been fined. But I don't think he should have been suspended.

Kori, you need to ask pop how many games he thinks Artest would have gotten suspended for if Manu still had long hair.

Oh, just stop. Manu is a saint. All Spurs are perfect and saintly and without blemish. Any hard contact by a Spur is inadvertant; in fact, any time it happens, it's because an opponent intentionally and aggressively got his face or other body part in the way. For example, in the first quarter, Artest hit Manu's elbow with his lip. That savage act alone should have gotten Artest thrown out of the league. But nooooooo, the rigged anti-Spurs NBA calls a foul on Manu!

Artest's forearm is just as bad as a punch. No, it's just as bad as attempted murder. It's the most outrageous act I've ever seen. And you know as well as I do that Spurs fans never exaggerate. It's worse than Kermit Washington. Manu could have been decapitated!

And how dare you say Manu flops? Manu is intrinsically incapable of deceit. The Spurs uniform washes away all sin and makes players holy. I've seen cases where players were able to manipulate air pressure to cause Manu to flail wildly without actually touching him. Clearly that shows the NBA has a problem with players dabbling in the occult. It does NOT mean Manu flops. It means that the Spurs are on the side of Jesus, and the opponents worship Satan.

It's a sign of the anti-Spurs conspiracy that Artest was only suspended one game. If the NBA were fair, they would just call off the NBA playoffs and crown the Spurs NBA champions. Even that's not enough. In addition, the Kings should have to subsidize it so Southside fans can go to Spurs games for $5 and get free beer. Anything less is proof of the conspiracy.

    BINGO

why is the flopping even being mentioned? yeah we know Manu flops so what? this has nothing to do w/it. I'm sure the NBA just said: Artest again? him lets suspend him before he really hurts someone.

Spurs fans can be such homers. There was a thread up for twelve (12) hours before the announcement was made about Artest possibly being punished for the elbow/forearm/wrist attack on Manu, and a GRAND TOTAL of one (1) Spurs fan went in there and said Artest should be suspended.

Now, all of a sudden, there are dozens of Spurs fans saying Artest should have been suspended. Where have you been? It took the league to do something before you could rush in and homer out and say it was the right call?

    Classic.

and it's obvious Stern hates Artest's guts.

I dont know. Someone brought it up. I agree it doesnt have anything to do with the suspension. I'm just saying that Manu wishes he could have flopped that one. Because if you flop you aren't taking a full on hit, and it seemed like he took a nice hit. I know he said it wasnt that hard, but that is TV talk. It was a good shot, and Manu is one tough SOB.

The suspension was warranted. He was obviously out there trying to hurt players. It's not like he tried to set a pick or even a little push on Manu.

Ron saw Manu coming and threw his arm out there to hurt him. Manu flopping doesn't take away from the fact that Ron was trying to hurt him above the shoulders, yes in the "Head" area, intentionally. This is after his year long suspension for violence. If you get suspended for an entire season for violence, it's a big deal, and he came and disregarded that whole suspension and warning to all, by taking a cheap shot at Manu that could have been devestating. It could have been his nose, his eye socket, throat, temple, take a pick.

And Manu is always humble and respectful, of course he's not going to say something derogatory about him. It's not in his character to do so.

    Suspension justified.

    I wish Manu wasn't such a flopper.
That way, we wouldn't be discussing whether he flopped, he exaggerated or he really was hit hard, but we would be talking only about the cheap INTENTIONAL shot Artest gave him. The bottom line is that Artest is a thug, and he deserves the special treatment by the league.

Fines are pointless to millionaires. All they're good for are the charities that recieve them after the NBA collects them. Why do you players still get T'd up if they know that they will be fined. Anyways do I want the Spurs to play team that doesn't have their best player...NO! I don't want any excuses, but I also don't want to see a player on my favorite team to go down cause some nutcase has a problem with losing. There are few things in the league that are gauranteed...Manu flopping, Artest doing/saying something retarted, Pistons begging for respect and Stern playing God. Will he come out on Friday and try something else probably but it would most likely be the last time he ever does in an NBA uniform.

exaclty. Manu doesn't act like a like Ray Allen and call to complain or even complain to the media. He didn't even want to comment on the hit. So I don't understand why Spur fans are even mentioning Manu's flopping like it had ANYTHING to do with the suspension.

I honestly didn't think much of the play until i watched the tape a few times.

There you can distinctly tell that the elbow was premeditated.

That's just the fine for an intentional elbow to the head.

As crazy as the BS is that Stu Jackson hands down, I'm certainly not going to Cry for Artest.

I would have thought he was a crazy loose cannon had he not tried to decapitate anyone THIS game.

But honestly here, what do DESERVE and PUNISHMENT by Stu Jackson really have in common?

Artest gets suspended a game for an intentional elbow to the head.

Timmy gets suspended a game for Jack Nies being a dip .

Yeah, I'm not really that upset about the Artest suspension.

The league should have fined Artest, and then don't let him get away with anything the rest of the series. From the video, you can see what you want to see. Maybe the League was as tired as I was about all pregame hype on Artest and how he improved the Kings to an elite team, blah, blah.
