I Agree. The first thing to go in an athlete are the legs. Ben without hops is a 6'9" piece of furniture as a center. He will not be worth the contract he is seeking and will probably get.
Some of that Dutch , bloke.

Javtolas may address the need. From his videos he seems to be very aggressive going to the rim and running the floor. He also shows a couple of nice hook shots from around six feet in. I know these are highlight reels, but if they show anything, they show at ude and he's got it.
I would like to see the Spurs toughen up with some of their future acquisitions. The Sacramento series was very physical for the current team. And the Heat deminstrated that a physical team can dominate the current Mavericks. It would be nice for the Spurs to acquire someone with Eduardo Najera-like qualities.
He can't really be confused with an offensive force. He'll get put backs and garbage baskets, sure, but no team is going to worry very much about him and points. Scola would be a big threat on offense, but certainly not Javtokas. And it looks like he never will be.
Seattle was able to push the Spurs to 6 games (and damn near 7) in the '05 playoffs with a platoon of frontcourt flotsam and jetsam. The Spurs don't need superstars up front with TD, but they need guys who can rebound, hustle, and play physical. Javtokas and Bonner are a start.
I know the JR Smith/Brent Barry trade nearly went down last deadline, but do you think it will still be there? This team is building around a youth movement, and thats not Brent Barry. JR caused problems on that team all last season, and I think the JR trade was a way to just dump an issue (also included was another problem player - Arvydas Macijauskas). But now with the draft looming and more time to decide on trades, do you really think the Hornets will want Barry?
I don't believe Barry has done anything on his end to diminish his value. A better offer may simply come along for Smith. Based on rumors, the Hornets are offering Smith in a bid to move up the draft board. You also have to take into account that any straight up Barry for Smith deal is reliant on the Hornets having cap room. Since the cap won't be announced until next month, it seems clear that if a deal was to take place, it would happen after the cap figure is known. Lastly, the Spurs may end up with another trade involving Barry.
Thats my point. People are talking like a JR trade is simply done. I think if the trade could be expanded and Scola's rights included, it might make it more plausible. The Hornets crave an inside scorer.
They need an inside scorer but they still have David West. West and Scola can only play PF. If they want an inside score, it should be a center.
Anybody know where David Noel of UNC is projected to go. I know he's only 6'6" at SF but he's got long arms, good defense, played on a championship team 2yrs ago and was a strong leader last year with the "Baby TarHeels" Anybody know where I can get the specifics on wingspan and all that on Noel?
Strengths: Exceptional athlete with a chiseled physique. Nice package of all-around skills. Has improved his range, will make the correct pass and rebounds in traffic. Plays within himself.

Late second round pick to undrafted.
measurements
athletic testing
Thanks.
I just realized that he ranked first in the athletic testing! If he doesn't get drafted the Spurs should try and get him on for the summer league. His write ups look a lot similar to what Bowen does and I think that under Bowen, Noel could learn a lot.
Don't expect former Gophers center Joel Przybilla to return to the Portland Trail Blazers, and instead to receive a huge free-agent offer from the San Antonio Spurs.

If the Spurs blow the MLE on Rasho Jr, I'm going to go Ghostal.
Luckily I think it's BS.
I don't know...we are not exactly sure of what we'll have at center!
I don't think Timmy will play center for lots of minutes.
Javtokas, if signed (that i really hope), has no nba experience and need, at the beginning, just some minutes.
At the righet price I'll take him
Good work ethic.
He should be a good rebounder and shot blocker...however, a better rebounder than Nesterovic and a better shot blocker than Mohammed.
The problem, I think, is his offensive game...quite not existent.
Two thoughts after the draft :
- Hornets have drafted 2 bigs with their 2 first round picks. They still need an upgrade at the SG spot : They are maybe still interested in Barry. And they haven't traded JR smith too.
- Bull need some scoring : Tyrus Thomas, Sefolosha and Khryapa are defensive players. They can be interested in Scola for one of their SF/PF. Deng, Nocioni and Tyrus Thomas are pipe dreams but I can see a deal with Scola and Khryapa as main pieces. Khryapa, even if he isn't the best player in the league, has the perfect profile as backup SF behind Bruce.
I think if we can get Speedy (or another decent backup pg), sign Javtokas, and get a small forward that can defend decently, we'll be in really really really good shape.
I don't like any of the current candidates we have for starting next to Duncan. We need another big man. (This is a good time to pimp Troy Murphy yet again.)
From what Ive seen of Javtokas, he will be able to start at some point of the season, so we just need to get younger and more athletic on the perimiter, and bring in some decent back up big man. Javtokas Lithiuanian team signed a new center already to replace him. Oh yeah and I rewad on Express Nems .com that the Spers were trying to move into the 1st round last night to get Rondo, Shannon Brown, or Ronnie Brewer but couldnt. Then they tryed moving up in the 2nd for Dee Brown, oh well huh?
True, I forgot that one. As long as they can rebound, defend, and score a little when needed I'm for it.
Watch the Youtube video of Robertas again...take a second....then think of the dollars the Spurs might have to spend.
Yeah I have seen those videos but they do nothing except make me think that he is quick, athletic, tough and can dunk the out of the ball. And he is only 25
