Now, obviously many words were exchanged that fueled the whole thing, but still, these guys are all idiots. No discipline whatsoever for a few of these guys, and it's not really surprising from these two squads. However, Melo takes the cake for being such a Pussy (yes, capital P). Hit and run.

Off topic, but what`s up with these "real men don`t slap" or something like that??? A slap has a psychological effect on the person getting slapped, more than a fist punch I think. Also, it isn`t a "weak" punch, slaps are very powerful... Also if you throw a fist punch you have a greater chance to knock someones teeth out, which can follow in a law suit... In the end it matters who is standing, not what kind of shot was used...

I just saw the replay, and it was a closed fist, although he hit with the inside of the hand (fingers folded in) and not the knuckles. It wasn't a hardcore punch, but it definitely wasn't a slap.

Karl provoked the Knicks in my book. By leaving 4 starters in with a 20-point lead and a little over a minute in the game, he was attempting to humiliate the Knicks. And the Nuggets were still running the break and going for high-flying dunks after Thomas had pulled most of his starters.

These are not only human beings we're talking about, but elite alpha-dog athletes with a lot of adrenaline and testosterone running through their veins. To expect them (the Knicks) to just stand there and be humiliated by the Nuggets is unrealistic. People have breaking points. They have pride. And when you push people far enough, they will lash out. It is human nature. And it ain't ever going to change.

Which is precisely why you do not do what the Nuggets did. You do not continue to run the score up when the game is won. You do not rub your victory in your opponents' faces. You do that and you are asking for a beat-down.

I understand all the people saying that violence is not the "proper" response, but in a situation like this, it's a highly probable one.

The punch was a typical NBA punch. It was a weak attempt, and it was Cheap but so was the take down at the Head that Collins did.

Reports I read have them winding up in the stands due to the brawl - didn't Stern say anything that wound up endangering the fans as well would be slapped down more harshly? Wasn't that part of the reason Jackson wound up with 25 games?

Personally I don't think 20 games would be too harsh for all those at the core of the brawl - Melo, Jeffries, Smith, perhaps others.

Taking your best players off the court when you're down 20 points late in the fourth quarter is not quitting. It's acknowledging you're not going to win the game. Who said Isiah told his players to quit? He just didn't have his starters in the blowout. Jeffries was his only real starter on the floor. Frye started but doesn't even play as much as Lee. Carmelo LEADS THE LEAGUE in scoring. CAMBY has been in the league for about 10 years. Andre Miller was in the game. Emptying your bench doesn't mean you tell your players not to try. It's acknowledging the game is out of reach.


Waiting for the guy that committed the flagrant foul to be restrained and held to sucker punch him in the face and then run away is NOT protecting your teammate.

I think what everyone is missing is that this showed the serious lack of class, self-respect, and self-discipline of both clubs. Pop would never run up the score just to humiliate an opponent. Heck, in the last few blow-outs, the starters haven't even played in the 4th quarter! Also, Pop would never tolerate the kind of show-boating exhibited by the Nuggets.

But the biggest thing this melee shows is the absolute lack of self-discipline by these players. They are nothing but "gangsta" thugs making millions of dollars. It's the whole at ude of "you can't disrespect our crib; you can't disrepect the playa." They think they are such big men (I use that term loosely), when they're really nothing but selfish little punks! I hope all of them get fined heavily and suspended for several games.

So much for running up the score, Denver, when as a result of your foolishness, you may not even make the playoffs now! And, if Isiah "encouraged" this type of behavior (seems highly likely, considering his comments about Bruce), he should be fined also. He was such a great player - but his playing career has been overshadowed by his total lack of skill as a GM and coach. I feel so sorry for Malik - what a huge disappointment to go from the Spurs organization to the Knicks. At least now, he should get some playing time - the only upside for Malik in this whole debacle!

Jackson went into the stands punching fans. Artest was actually more civilized and didn't punch fans in the stands...he just scared the out of some little white guy.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Isiah subbed Mardy Collins for Marbury one possession before the flagrant. Collins had logged zero minutes in the game, and was apparently on the bench when he decided that the fans didn't need to see any more breakaway dunks by JR Smith. Isiah lied about "giving up" and he had not emptied his bench. What he did was put the guy at the end of the bench in with orders to hurt someone.

Whatever happens in all this, I hope the league finally puts Zeke on a probation, because he's dangerous to have around.

Let it also be known that there were three nuggets players at the scoring table waiting to check into the game when the foul occured. Suns fans know better then anyone that teams can go on runs late in the game. Apparently no one on this board ever watches Suns games. When the Suns are in blow-out situations, D'Antoni puts in the bench guys only to see them let the other team go on a 10-0 run. Then he has to panic and put his starters back in. Isn't it obvious that D'Antoni would love to rest his best players so they don't break down (again) in the playoffs? I've never heard an opposing coach say the Suns run up the score or anything like that by keeping their starters in the game. Please, Spurs fans, watch a game for once and don't just read the boxscore.

Secondly, I'm pretty pissed that everyone keeps railing the Suns for this 14-game streak by saying they've been playing a "weak schedule."

Hmmm, well the numbers don't lie: The Suns are 17-6, while they are 13-1 against teams with a losing record and 4-5 against above-.500 teams.

The Spurs, on the other hand, are 19-6 and 15-1 against teams with a losing record while also having the same 4-5 record against teams +.500 teams.

Still, both teams are winning the games they should and that's what makes them the elite teams in the West.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA could wait until Monday before ruling on penalties resulting from the brawl between the Nuggets and Knicks.

All 10 players on the court, including league scoring leader Carmelo Anthony, were ejected after the melee Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The mayhem began when New York's Mardy Collins flagrantly fouled the Nuggets' J.R. Smith with 1:15 left in Denver's 123-100 victory.

Anthony faces an automatic suspension for throwing a punch, and Smith and New York's Nate Robinson will be penalized for their fight that spilled into the stands.

With so much footage to review and players, coaches and officials to interview, the league probably will need time to make its ruling.

"We don't have timetable for when the decision will be reached," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Sunday.

Still, it might well come Monday since both teams play that night. The league's policy has been to rule on any suspensions before the teams involved play their next game.

The Knicks host Utah on Monday; the Nuggets are home against Washington.

Anthony could receive one of the harshest penalties. He twice escalated actions, shoving Robinson in the neck and throwing a hard punch that dropped Collins just when things seemed to be calming down.

Last season, Orlando's Keyon Dooling was suspended five games without pay and Seattle's Ray Allen three for their fight, which also spilled into the crowd. Dooling threw a punch that did not connect.

Melo should get 15 games for conduct and at least another 5 for fighting like he belonged in the WNBA.
