He did not start and Sloan had him on a short leash. He did not get free rains like Chris Paul did. This is his first year to start and run a team. So kiss it.

He started 47 of those 80 games. Again, that was while averaging just under 29 minutes a game. Only two more Jazz players played more minutes, only two more Jazz players started more games, and only two more Jazz players averaged more minutes per game - three if you count Boozer, who played in 33 games.

So he didn't play much and didn't start? Hmmm...

You're probably right about Sloan reining him in last year, but that kind of thing is had to quantify. My point is that Williams is not one of those "technically a rookie" cases, though of course I acknowledge Parker's huge edge in experience, and I know Williams is a heck of a young player.

It wasn't long ago that Deron was attending his commencement at the University of Illinois.

He's one season removed from his rookie year. The fact that he's already being compared to TP and you seem incredibly happy that TP was better is a demonstration of how good Deron is, and will be.
I'm a little bit confused here I was not the one who posted that comment

    TP: 23 pts, 9/17, 11 ass, 4 rb, 2st, 0 tos

    Deron: 23 pts, 9/16, 5 ass, 3 rb, 0 st, 5 tos!!

Where are the folks saying Deron>Tony??

When the Spurs needed a stop, they got one.
When the other team misses a jumper, that isn't a stop. The Spurs got two blocks and a steal to start the quarter, and had to rely on misses and hitting threes to almost maintain their lead. The only thing more ridiculous than making it sound like smallball won the game is making it sound like they won it with defense.

It depends. If they're missing uncontested jumpers, then sure, that's not a stop. But if a defender is able to close out and contest, it does make a difference. Even just getting to the spot helps a little.

I agree, and it's a good point. Now that you mention it, it's a win if Smallball© holds a team to taking a jump shot instead of a layup, dunk, or trip to the foul line. There were an awful lot of shots from the paint in the fourth quarter, though. None of which changes the fact that Smallball© didn't "win" a game when they were given an 11 point lead and won by nine. I'll give them props for not losing the game, but there's ample evidence that this year's version of Smallball© relies on hitting timely threes in order to hang in games or to win (against terrible teams).
