The truth is, the only deal the Nuggets are likely to make before the trade deadline is one that would ship J.R. Smith out of town. And any player the Nuggets would get in return probably wouldn't impact their season.
Looks like JR Smith's trade value is at its lowest since being with the Hornets when the Spurs almost pulled of that trade for him.

    Elson for Smith and Wafer

Sounds good. Take a chance with JR Smith at little cost.

You've got it all wrong. Think about it. If the Spurs bring in a young guy like JR Smith, he'll be stuck on the end of the bench watching Bowen, Finley, and Vaughn miss jumpshots. What the Spurs need to do is get OLDER. If they bring someone old like Sam Cassell, he's guaranteed to get 30 minutes a night on this team, especially if he can demonstrate that he is no longer able to shoot more that 40% from the field. By the way, is Clifford Robinson available?

Difference of opinion, but here's my take....

A guy like JR Smith is low-risk. While he has the talent level to surpass some of our roster regulars and earn some legitimate wing minutes, there is NO expectation that he HAS to get minutes. Essentially, if he can benefit the Spurs with his play then he's an asset and if he doesn't break through this year he has one more to prove he can handle being a part of this team at a VERY low cost.

In my opinion it's a no-lose situation that seems like something the Spurs would take advantage of. For example, it seems that every move they've made in the past has been for players with the potential to contribute but without the expectation...guys like Nazr, who worked out, and Ely, who did not and was let go.

Bottom Line: JR Smith is a very talented and extremely cheap option for which you would lose next to nothing in order to get....I think that's a no-brainer deal.

JR Smith is talented and could probably be had for cheap since Karl hates him for some reason. The thing is, would he get any playing time this season? He's a guy that could definitely help in the future, though.

He may or may not be able to help the Spurs this season, but I think if he came over in a trade he would at least be given an opportunity to prove he can contribute.

The things I like about Smith are that he's athletic and can make shots. Last year before Iverson came over, I remember him having some big games.

    Talented....

But, he's fat, lazy, and makes more than at least one of the big 3. If the Sprus wanted a talented, fat, and lazy guy they could've kept Butler for about $8M less a season.

I'll go with a no on that one....but Knicks might be looking to deal and they usually make crappy ones, so you're not too far off-base. How about them giving up Crawford for Barry and Elson...that'd be nice.

lets trade all of our posts, besides Duncan for wings. There's plenty of minutes to go around at our wing position, unlike our solid front-court situation.

That's the problem, if they don't get rid of a contributor, what can they expect to get back? Teams, excluding the Knicks, aren't going to trade the Spurs good players for horrible ones. The Knicks, on the other hand, are an example of a team that makes a lot of trades. Now, they have a roster full of old, overpaid players who suck.
