Offered a contract or not, how can you view him as a traitor?

Very myopic and homerish view, IMO.

By the way...another reason the Suns would have interest in Barry...he has championship experience, he knows the frame of mind he takes to win one...and regardless of what Spurs fans like to say, he's proven he has the mental toughness to do it(he proved this in 05).

The Suns lack players with championship experience...the Spurs finally made their break through when they got 3 role players that had it....one of them just happens to be the GM of the Suns now and knows how much that can help...that's why he got Shaq too.

IT's not myopic or homerish at all...if he goes to a team we hate...he's going to get a little extra hate for it. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that...no one is forcing him to go to a team we hate.

The Spurs didn't royally screw him here....they traded him to a team where he was most popular, with plenty of time to make another teams roster, to a team that was freeing him up to still play for a championship this season, he's going to get paid....they treated him fairly and with respect. If he wants to jump into a dogfight that's his perogative, and his fault when he gets bit for it...and yes, he should get extra heat for it.

You want a logical reason for it?

Because he's going to give them an extra edge against us because of his inside knowledge of the team.

    Extra edge = extra hate.

As of last playoffs...the Suns are in the heated rivalry portion of Spurs opponents.

Honestly...I think your view is a little primitive and unsophisticated...it's also boring sports fandom.

Barry going to the Suns would be one step down on the ladder from AJ going to coach the Mavs.

    Gets it^^^^

Not as bad as AJ though...because we aren't retiring Brent's jersey...

I just don't understand the tennis match mindset of some fans...

It's like Finley coming to us...

He came here to stick it to the Mavs and make it personal.

Mavs didn't treat him badly or with disrespect...and they are paying his butt 15mil per season to play for someone else.

I don't blame Mavs fan for taking that personally...it was personal with Finley as well. He made it personal. He wanted it to be personal...he wanted it to hurt.

Spurs fans don't want to see Brent Barry wearing purple and white, bringing the ball up against the Spurs in a series-clinching game for the Suns and calling out what defense the Spurs are running. Malik Rose did it do us his first game after being traded to NY, and the Knicks won that game. And I wouldn't consider Barry to be the type of guy to hand over the stolen Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance, but I've seen it happen before. I hope he comes back when he is eligible to be re-signed by us because that scene is very likely to happen if he goes to Phoenix.

Unsophisticated and primitive? What an odd choice of words for this discussion.

Honestly...I think your view is irresponsible and uninteresting ... it's also a dull ploy.

Why is that? Unsophisticated and primitive in the realm of sports and rivalries...

If all fans had yoru view...there would no heated rivalries, and no one would give a .

And pro sports would be vastly different than they are...

Honestly...I think your view is irresponsible and uninteresting ... it's also a dull ploy.
Yeah but my view is based in reality...sports are built on rivalries...heated rivalries, and those rivalries are created by factors like geography but also by the personalities and actions of the people directly involved in them...

I'm just glad you aren't go in charge of sports...there'd be more excitement on the latest episode of American Idol. More heated compe ion on the next season of Dancing with the Stars...

Luckily, your view isn't shared by the majority of sports fans...

By the way...please don't bother responding and do not allow yourself to be provoked into an emotional escalation of this disagreement...just accept losing like the enlightened gent you claim to be and actually attempt to live by your self professed creed.

No need for harsh words by a higher thinking sports fan like yourself... because that would mark you as clearly being full of .

So you might as well stfu and get out like a good little pissedon fan...and let this little discourse die as rapidly as any sports league you would be the commisioner of...

    Have a nice day

I've only stated my opinion on one player who was just traded, not rivalries or the state of sports as a whole. But thanks for putting words in my mouth and adding The American Idol and Dancing with the Stars references. Stellar.

Will it add to the rivalry? Sure. Would I view him as a traitor if this had happened to the Pistons? No reason to since the Pistons were the ones to make the initial move.

Only way I'd view him as a traitor is if he demanded a trade or signed with said rival as a FA in the offseason.

    Sorry, I missed this.

What? Seriously, what are you talking about? Do you even know or do you just get mired in the redundancy of baiting other fans?

It's almost like you're not even trying anymore.

Have a cup of coffee and a wonderful day.

What difference does it make if he does it in the offseason as opposed to the middle of the season?

I don't get that...this might be the Spurs last shot at a le right here...if anything it bothers me more if he does it this season than in the offseason.

The difference is that he has more of a legit reason not to go back to the Spurs now. You know, they just traded him. Even if they did treat him with respect, ultimately they didn't want him.

Traitor is a strong word to me and I wouldn't use on a player that the team was shopping for over a year and who eventually was traded.

    That's all.

I'm sure Barry was talked to about the situation before he was traded by Pop and R.C and maybe even Tim and the rest of the gang. I really really doubt Barry was traded on bad terms and unaware of what lied ahead of him with being waived.

What's funny is you acting like Steve Nash would actually chase Parker if he was assigned to defend him...

    That's a good one...

Someday, you'll watch Steve Nash actually play a game and realize how funny that statement really was.

Putting him on Tony is no worse than putting Gary Payton or Jason Kidd on him...the hot knife does not care what kind of butter it is...
    Suns don't care about defense:

That’s the thing we really want to build on
I’m pretty encouraged just because of our defense and stuff we know we have to get better at, we were pretty good at
Plus D'Antoni has done some matchups on the defensive end with Bell and formerly Marion being part of a lot of cross-matchups. It's not like they never think of it. Offense is vastly more important, but they understand they need at least a little defense. They do this mostly by playing passing lanes and bring in help defenders to block shots.

You do realize it's not like Nash would stand in one spot and let Parker run wherever he wants? That's pretty much what Nash can do on Bowen. Go stand in one place and rest. That's the biggest value for Nash on Bowen, and if they don't care about defense, why would they make their MVP expend energy (even if it's a half-hearted effort) instead of a role player probably playing 10-15 minutes a game like Barry would be for them?

Come up with a reason why Barry would guard Bowen yet? Still waiting.

Because unlike Stackhouse, Barry isn't a dumbass who mouthed off about coming back when cut.
