A Federal Court Just Shot Down One Of Trump’s Attacks On Obama’s Legacy
The Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit handed down the decision to the Environmental Protection Agency on Monday and
demanded that they continue enforcing a set of rules that reduce the emissions of the greenhouse gas methane.
Trump’s EPA, under control of climate denier Scott Pruitt, had previously attempted to delay the implementation of Obama’s methane rules for two years on behalf of fossil fuel companies, whose operations release large amounts of the gas into the atmosphere every year.
The rules will prevent 180,000 tons a year of methane from clogging up the atmosphere and will “boost federal revenue between $3 million and $13 million a year because firms pay royalties only on the oil and gas they capture and contain,”
Fossil fuel lobbyists gave the usual litany of complaints about the rules like
it was a drastic “federal overreach”
that was stifling their ability to make millions of dollars off of accelerating drastic changes in the climate that will disrupt and transform human civilization as we know it.
The ruling from the courts marks yet another defeat for a President in desperate need of any kind of win
