It finally has become obvious why conference championship games have the potential of becoming disastrous for the loser.
The “but, but the tie breaker”will still be a problem not only for who actually gets into the conf championship, but the playoffs as well.
This was foreseeable and was pointed out.
$ play for networks.
Get rid of conf championships. Play more in conferences games, less games against inferior opponents.
Thank you UT for Mich, Ohio St., and ND home and away games OUT of conference.
It's been that way for a while now. It's just more glaring now that's there's more playoff spots.
It’s also much more rigorous on teams who get into the conf championship. Simply because there are more games.
Byes become really valuable imo for the conf winner and punish the loser. Not getting into the conf championship and then making the playoffs
And then we have Notre Dame…
In addition there are no assurances in place that a conf championship loser will be selected over another team from that same conf who sat out that championship game.
I still recall back in....03(?) when OU lost the conference le game but still wound up in the national le game. There was some mild outrage for sure
Also Ohio St. got in to the final 4 by sitting out the conf championship. (They lost out to Michigan in that particular division of the BIG.)
Now it is more likely to happen just because there are more teams. Unless there is some sort of rule made I cant figure out.
I must say it has been amusing watching ESPN and others attempt to sort it out way before we had enough info.
Now it is really serious as we are much further along, but still has so many permutations it is actually fun imo.
I really would ask for more in conference games and no conference playoffs though.
