    Spurs/Jazz: 3 more people & we'll have enough for a riot!
    By Roy Bragg
    http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/atlarge/

My pleas for "Anarchy in SA" didn't fall on deaf ears. Remember, you can be loud and angry now, or you can be morose and bitter like those losers in Dallas and Phoenix.

    It's your choice.

I'd love to go to a Spurs playoff game. Sadly, with a family of 4 (two parents, two teenaged sons) I can't afford it on a teacher's salary. It sux to be me.

    Judi

The Anchor Desk responds: Hang in there, Judi. You're helping shape lives and the community is grateful. Here's an idea: Drop your kids off at the Ray Rangel American Legion Hall with their gloves and a note that says they're there to play baseball. Then drive off in a hurry, go to the AT&T and try to score scalped tickets for 2. If you can't do that, just keeping abusing people on the Internet.

I agree with you about the fans at home games. When I see the games on TV, it is hardly loud; almost if the Spurs are the worst team in the league. What is the point of going to the game if you are not going to get into it . I remember at Alamodome being louder and that's a huge place. I thought when we got the AT&T center it was going to be the best it was smaller and louder, but its not it looks like the fans only clap when we make a basket. They sit when we are behind and it gets quiet if we are down and stays like that until the Spurs make a push. It should be the fans pushing the Spurs, not the Spurs making the fans loud. When I am at home, I am yelling and acting like I am there, cursing at the other team to choke like I did against the Suns. Fans need to get into more and act like true fans and cheer from the tip off to the last horn and be on their feet the whole time. The rest of the country doesn't want the Spurs to win, so San Antonio needs to get up and let the country know they are bring home number 4. The Spurs are the best in the league, so we as fans need to be the best in the league also. SO GET LOUD TONIGHT AND BRING THE HATE.

    Lance

The Anchor Desk responds: Good call on the upper case to end the email. Nothing says "hate" like e-screaming. Well done, sir.

I know what you mean about the crowd. I sat in the nosebleed seats and there wasn't one person around me that ever yelled or cheered. Once in a while they got off their feet — once when Horry checked in for the first time — but that was it. They should have stayed home. I wanted to yell at them to start cheering but it would have been useless. I have no idea why they were there if they weren't going to make some noise. I had to yell and scream for my entire section. They better do a better job tonight.

    Dana

The Anchor Desk responds: You could threaten some people. Or buy hot coffee at the concession stand and then splash it on a few people to get them in the right frame of mind. Good luck tonight!

I had no idea that the catch phrase this season is Get Ready! Get Loud! i have talked to many of my friends who also watch every Spurs game and none of them had an inkling that it was either. That says something about the marketing team for the Spurs when a group of rabid fans doesnt pick up on that.

i havent bbeen to a game this year beig a a poor college student but last year when i went it was the same stupid production that they had on when i went as a k9id back in 1995.

This whole thing kind of pisses me off. i watched the game on Sunday and had i known that there were seats available i would have hauled ass downtown to see it live. i hate the production but the team still makes me want to go. Fact is I didnt know so i watched the game like many others on ABC.

All i have to say to the Spurs marketing team is you. Its your failure not mine. Maybe they should not wait til after the fact to sell their tickets.

I have 2 kids that need to be in bed on time, and really don't know anyone that will babysit at my house so we can go.

So, I won't be able to attend any games until at least next week...when school is out. But then the Spurs will be in Utah...so I guess that makes me a bad fan, too.

I think there are alot of reasons that factor into why this is happening.

    1. It's the Jazz. It's not Dallas or Phoenix, I think even Golden State would draw more excitement than Utah. It's not the WCF we were all anticipating. Utah vs San Antonio isn't going to be exciting to the casual fan (which the majority of Spurs fans our, in my opinion).

    2. Prices of Tickets. I know there are tons of tickets on Ebay, StubHub, etc. But the original sales of tickets from Ticketmaster, is where the casual fan is going to start. Sorry, maybe some of you can afford $54 bucks for a seat half way up Club 200 for every home playoff game, but I can't. I got a damn good deal on my HD TV that I spent my entire tax return on and I'm going to get a of a lot of good use out of it. I can see the action way better on my TV than I ever could at the ATT, and having friends over is just as good as any playoff experience in an arena (sans The Finals).

    3. Spurs PR is . When's the last time we had a "Blackout"? When's the last time they gave away anything we see these teams like GSW, Utah, the Heat, even in Dallas they get clapper thingies! Those maracas were the best thing they ever gave away, they made a of alot of noise and were annoying as but they worked. They brought the arena together and made SA look like a rabid bunch of fans.

    4. Prices of The Game Experience. Let's say we spend that $54 per ticket. That's about $120 with taxes and "convenience" charges for two people. Cheapest parking is $8 (I'm not sure if that's still right, I haven't been to a game since last season.) Then if you want a soda or beer that's what like $6 to $7 (so $14 for two people, and that's just one beverage). God forbid you want to eat at the game (easily $25 for two people). And these silly vendors don't even take credit/debit cards for pete's sake! You could easily spend $150-$175 for ONE game. That's ing insane!

    5. Gas prices are kicking our asses. With gas being $3/gal alot of people don't have the kind of money to throw down to get to the arena. Getting to work and school usually come first before going to a game for most people.

I love the Spurs to death but if they want to put the blame entirely on the Spurs being "spoiled" or "lazy" or whatever that's there prerogative. I just think they just take these factors into consideration before they go throwing all this blame on us.

    Great points, Ginofan!!!

    I have to agree.

3 games in 5 days, not to mention that this game is on a Tuesday night.

total cost of experience is pricey

I didn't know that Ebay sold Spurs tickets and I don't think that I'm the only one. My wife has bought and sold stuff on Ebay, but I haven't and I don't have a clue how it works.

cost of tickets listed as available are now more expensive

Those are the main points. It's compounded by the fact that we are playing the Jazz.

o! That is what sedatives and cribs are for. A TRUE fan would know that. So dope them up and lock up the house tight (and the matches, just in case, right?) and go buy your $50 a pair scalped tickets and show your true fandom!

We were actually contemplating that for the last GTG ... it was right across the highway from my house, when they are usually about 15-20 miles away. We decided against it though, since they changed the formula of Dimetapp....it's not as good.

To me this whole idea that this is relevant news outside of SA is sensationalism. There are perfectly logical reasons why the last game didn't sell out.
1.)Quick turnaround, beating PHX at home then playing another home game just a couple days later.
2.) San Antonio is not a wealthy city (as everyone except Hardberger and Judge Wolff knows)
    3. Playoff tickets are really expensive ( I went to the first game of the postseason for the Spurs, I think the cheapest ticket was $9, now its $23, so there was a dramatic price hike.
    4) Complaceny. The overwhelmingly feeling that the Jazz can't be us, so lets save up money for the NBA Finals
    5) Utah Jazz. I for one love teams that play good basketball like the Jazz, but they're even more old school than the Spurs, they don't have a Lebron James.

just for the record... when I called Ticketmasters on Saturday to get tickets for Go Diego Go the great jaguar rescue... there was a voice recording trelling me that if I was calling for Spurs tickets I was SOL because they were all sold out.
Exactly, Same here. And the same happened to many more. I do blame Ticketmaster for the 1st game, this here is proof of that. People thought they were sold out and that's what they were told for both Games 1 and 2. That's a fact. Period.

I think yesterday was too early to panic about Game 2. All the talk and criticism about the Game 1 non-sellout made this an issue (news worthy), (without disclosing that thousands of people were told that nothing was available).

Now that they are letting people know that tickets are still available, after all (without admitting the Ticketmaster foul up) I'm sure everything will be fine. It was only 1000 tickets available yesterday, not 3000. There is still today's sales and the walk-up crowd.

San Antonio just kissed the NFL goodbye for the next 25 years. The NFL would laugh at an owner who wanted to bring a team to a city that couldn't sell out Western Conference Finals tickets.
I wonder about that. While this certainly looks bad, it is no secret that South Texas is football country. , high school football is lot bigger here than the Spurs.

And the way it's looking, I'm not sure the Spurs can survive here long-term. You can't sell out WCF, WTF is going to happen when the Spurs suck again?

    St. Louis.
I doubt that . San Antonio is growing very fast and much more importantly, the demographics are finally changing toward the yuppier end of the spectrum. The bottom line is that there really aren't that many people with serious disposable income in San Antonio, at least not after the mandatory Escalade or F-250 King Ranch payments. And many of those who do are more interested in traditional "white" sports like golf and gardening...

Admittedly, the change in this city is painfully slow and subject to frequent missteps like those Cluster Towers by the Court House that are advertised as "luxury condos". Luxury, my ass!

I put in a call to all the news stations about Ticketmaster telling thousands of people that they were sold out of tickets for Games 1 and 2, then all of a sudden tickets appear.

Hopefully we see a story on this. Kens 5 and KSAT were the ones mostly interested in doing a story on it. We'll see.

Thats what the Spurs need to find out. Its their job to sell tickets and if people aren't buying the tickets then there is obviously a problem. A Spurs official who "shakes his head" and says like that should be pissed at the Spurs organization that can't get these tickets sold.

A lot of people know that Jazz doesn't have a lot to offer to compete or challenge the Spurs. I bet you, If the Jazz endup winning the next two games.... game 5 will be sold out.
