guys, DONT be duped into thinking dpg is a good poster or even a good guy. the few posters here who have met the guy in real life regularly trash him in aim chats and don't like the guy, he's short, annoying, and has a unique style of trolling where he tries to bait you then play innocent. he's also really dumb when it comes to basketball discussion, and thought that chris bosh's numbers weren't overinflated in toronto and that the mavs not only wouldn't win but had absolutely 0 chance at all. he tries to make me look like the bad guy but its me who feels bad for him.

all in aall he strikes me as a better human being than you could ever be...all you do is argue and fake threaten people all day...your the classic guy who brings a knife to a gun fight...ohh wait you're the guy that never shows up...

It's got nothing at all to do with basketball. DPG is just mad because when the mavs won it all, I wouldn't allow DPG to celebrate while all the spur fans were jumping for joy acting like it was their championship. here's an official rebuttal from an elite Laker fan:

Let me tell you why this strategy sucks.

1. We don't have a PG that can make those entry passes
2. Bynum can't handle double teams(they send it every time)
3. We do not have outside shooters
4. Our movement off-ball is absolutely terrible
5. No spacing with Metta Fisher and Barnes all getting a lot of minutes


This happens every game. Our first option is to always go inside, we either:

1. Can't make the pass - ends with Kobe bail out

If by some miracle we make the pass

2. Bynum is double teamed, and either of the following happens:

a) He turns the ball over
b) He attacks the double and misses the shot
c) He makes the wrong pass and we don't get an open shot - Kobe bail out
d) He makes the right pass, but it's to Metta/Fisher/Barnes/Blake and they miss

Assuming that it's actually Pau that we're going inside to, if by some miracle we make the pass

3. Pau is single covered, and

a) Holds onto the ball for 10 seconds after jab stepping a million times and then passes it to Kobe for a bail out shot

b) Shoots a jumper falling away from the basket
c) Passes it out to Metta/Fisher/Barnes/Blake and they miss
d) Gets the ball slapped away


That's what happens when the offense is ran through our bigs.

That is pretty much it, point for point.

The Triangle did not require a true pg and was thus a guard friendly system. Fisher, despite some big game winners against the Magic in the Finals has been sinking fast. Now that Brown is running conventional sets, the pg play is really exposed.

When the playoffs start, and the game slows down to more of a half court set, some of these issues would seem to be resolved, but under a conventional system and in a conference with elite guards, I don't see it being enough to make a difference.

Unless the Lakers can get a true pg by the trade deadline, It doesn't look good for them, and even if they do, they would most likely have to give up Pau, so there goes their length advantage inside, so it is somewhat of a wash.

Odom leaving took a big chunk of versatility out of both the offense and the defense.

That's what landed them Bynum tbh. They will eventually get a big FA, plus an lottery pick which may make them relevant again.

I think they still have top talent. However, Kobe system doesn't make good use of it. And Brown is not a great offensive coach.

World and Murphy were good players last season, not sure why no bench.

Kool, thanks for the thoughtful response. I haven't read all the posts that have appeared in this thread since I first posted it so perhaps you've already explained this, but are you saying that there is no remedy to the BIGS/PG situation with the current personnel and the offense needs to continue to run through Kobe? If so, it seems like you're saying the Lakers can't be much if any better than they currently are without a major acquisition or trade. Is that what you're saying or do you think with their current roster, then can somehow go from mediocre to elite status come playoff time without a big change? Interested in your honest thoughts on this. Thanks.

Based on what Kool said, I think the Lakers are better off trading Kobe for a legit PG since Bynum is the anchor defensively while as efficient offensively with Gasol being the most effecient offensively and better than Kobe defensively. Basically Kobe is the most expendable. Trade him to the Nets for D-Will.

They need a change down low... The problem is our bigs at this point, they're both inept and inadequate. Amongst the many other things outlined, Pau know how to from a thought process but from an execution POV he cannot establish low post position because he's too weak. Anyone from 6'6 to 7'0 can easily move him to and fro...he's just too lite in the ass. He holds the ball way too long then looks for Kobe to bail him out.

Drew is a poor mans Dwight...Dwight may not be as polished as Drew in the paint but he's a certified 20 / 20 man and doesn't have to be forced to play D.

I said it before and I'll say it again...Pau to Boston for Rondo, or to Houston for Scola / Lowry while Drew and Artest go to Orlando for Dwight...if at least one of these don't go down were done in the first round this year.
