Spurs to me, are NOT Boston. Boston fans should be proud because pushing Lebron and his Lebronaires to 7 games, for that old and gimoy team is them playing WAY ABOVE their heads. Spurs losing to OKC after being up 2-0 is the spurs playing under theirs ...
    Double standard tbh

They have at least 3 HOFers in Boston, and a host of good role players and (I think) the best PG in the league.

The Spurs history is an anomaly, almost no other small market teams have ever done what the Spurs have done, in any big sport. To win a championship requires more than offensive perfection. It requires perimeter and inside defense, and the Spurs have been middle of the pack all season on defense. There's no way they were poised to win a ring, and had they pulled Dallas and LA in the 1st and 2nd, they might not have gotten as far as they did.

Sure, the guys they brought in (Boris and Jax) helped a great deal, but our anchor isn't what it used to be, and Tim is the reason this team won championships by dominating people like Ibaka and Perkins to the nth degree. He's abandoned his bank shot, he second guesses his jumper (always has but now even more so) and that's because he doesn't have what little athleticism he once had. He's still one of the best bigs in the game, but 2003 Timmy was a ing beast.

We also miss Bruce, who gets too little credit for the team we had, and even then we squeaked by in the WCF.

If you're going to be a fan of a small market team, you have to decide why. I am a fan because I agree with how they run their business, the people they hire, how they conduct themselves on and off the court. Winning is wonderful, but I would rather root for a lottery bound Spurs team than a b4b Lakers team that hires other franchise's best players to keep the mob at bay. I don't get off on bragging about a team I root for anyhow, I just admire them. That's my type of fandom. I won't stop being a fan unless they stop being something I admire.

I agree with your main points, and I never once thought the Spurs were guaranteed to win this series before it began. I knew it would be a tough, tough series. But once they went up 2-0, it changed things. All the Spurs needed to do was win 1 game out of 2 away. That's it. The shift to OKC changed the whole series, there was no coming back from that.

I think they were good enough to be in the conversation, they were up 2-0 in the WCF. They were supposed to be the veteran team that executed well, but they turned the ball over way too much and that costed them 2 very pivotal games, 3 and 5. Game 3 was a blow out but the Spurs were right there in games 5 and 6, and unfortunately both times the Thunder were able to close.

You are seriously underrating the Spurs when you say they weren't in the conversation, clearly they were, being up 2-0, and being right there in 2 crucial games where the refs and poor decisions were costly.
If you cannot make it to the Finals, if you are backdoor swept, you should not be in the conversation for champs.

Sure, up by 2 everything seems great, but there were signs in those games that indicated things were about to get bumpy, and although the Thunder have room to adjust and move powerful pieces here and there and match the Spurs' system, the Spurs were tweaked months ago to their potential, and they had no room to adjust anything without getting worse. That's what we saw when Pop started in with the crazy subs utions. We simply had no plan B. We've been running on all cylinders on plan A for months.

That's also why Pop won the CotY award. He had a record that his pieces didn't add up to. The Thunder were right with us, but their pieces are so much greater than ours in terms of playoff basketball that it's not even a contest.

I realize you don't feel the same way, but that's how I've seen it all year.

I am proud to be Spurs fan. I am proud of my team which fought hard but didn't have a bit of luck, one way or another. As Pop said, nobody said it was gonna be easy. And nobody said we can't bounce back next year, even stronger and more experienced. I believe in the Spurs! I'm Spurs fan till I die.

That's silly. Teams like Utah played pretty close to their abilities and it was quite clear their best wasn't good enough. Spurs best got them a 2-0 lead, even with OKC playing well (88 points from their big 3).
Exactly. One of the keys to the Spurs winning was keeping turnovers down. That's something that's entirely controllable. Instead they showed such disregard for the basketball. Also I am tired of the Spurs role players being negated by being run of the three point line. They need to be able to take a few dribbles and hit a midrange jumpshot. It should be automatic. I don't know why Pop can't realize this.

Obviously most of us Laker fans are arrogant pricks, I get that. And many of you, are trying to maintain that small market mentality of: "well nobody expected us to do this well not even OUR fans ...so I am proud" That is sweet, but you guys are fans of a 4x champs now. Duncan is one of the 10 greatest players to lace them up and he has 2 HOF guards at his side even if he has lost a step or two. You should EXPECT to win after having the best and 2nd best records in the NBA the past two seasons. It's not like the Spurs core has not won before, like OKC. I would think the Spurs FO has raised the bar and the expectations for it's fans. I know it has been almost 5 years since your last le, but Alvarez and DPG are right. Why should they not be dissapointed in this series and how does it not taint the season a bit?! Sure you got to enjoy ALL of those wins, just like the Pats fans enjoyed all those wins when they went 18-0. But when you lose the chance at the le it's bitter-sweet and definitely more bitter than sweet. I know, I have been there. I felt the same way in 2008 and that hurt worse because it was Boston.
Well said. This "so proud" nonsense is more about wanting to have the last word than anything else.
    Sorted

While it was an exciting season, it's disappointing because this was probably the last year the big three will be healthy in the playoffs together again. Even if we field the same squad next year, I just don't see them doing as well. They peaked at the right time and they had health. That hasn't happened since 2007. But in the end, they weren't good enough.
