Scola, Rasho or Nazr, Beno and Devin??

    Heck no.

I'm not sure if that's one big trade or two small ones but that's too much to lose.
It depends who you get back. That looks su iously like the kind of trade package you'd put together for a veteran star on a team looking to build around a young nucleus.

As I told some of you in chat last week, there has been rumblings of a few possible trade scenarios that include Rasho and Scola's rights that have been floating around for the last two weeks. That's why I kept repeating in the forum that Scola signing in S.A. wasn't a lock. Maybe he still will get signed, but the Spurs aren't going to overpay for him ... so if they can get a good deal, they will.

A question (sorry for my ignorance)

How usual is to make a deal with draft rights like Scola's ... Does it have a price? if so ... how much do you estaimated??
If you're asking how much it would count for in a trade, salary-wise, I think it's the NBA minimum for a second-round pick from that year's draft.

    I could be wrong.

If the Spurs did an S&T, then the salary for trade purposes would be the first year of that deal, I think.

If SA is going to trade Scola, needs to sign first Oberto because if not, Manu is going to Kick Buford and Pop ass

Walter, 1st Rounders have a fairly set value because there is a scale published on 1st round picks based on 3-year contracts, with the #1 being worth the highest amount and the last pick in the 1st round being worth the lowest (a little under $1M/yr.) Sometimes these are traded for picks, as the Spurs did with PHX with Leandro Barbosa for a 1st rounder in a future year - TBD.

2nd Rounders, as was mentioned can range from the league minimum for a player to whatever.

Walter, look in here for an article that addresses your question partially.

That was my doubt, thanks for answering it ... btw I can't stop pointing out how smart is Spurs' Managerial Team, SA has a lot options open at this moment.

I think this a good assets, besides the roster.

I heard of Paul Pierce beeing on the block. But I doubt that will happen. I think the Spurs should just sign a long and young 3 (if there is one out there) or maybe bring bigdog back with the MLE. That team would be very good.

    Nazr/ Rasho
    Tim/ Horry/ Oberto
    Bowen/ Robinson
    Gino/ Barry/ maybe Brown
    Parker/ Udrih

There are rumors that some teams might cut some players with huge contracts. The Spurs may go that route if the opportunity arises.

    I'm glad it helped.

BTW, Oberto will definitely have an adjustment period on goaltending. He's only known FIBA. Expect a few back-atcha's on the downward arc early-on next season.

Now it is easy to see why Scola wasn't drafted higher. If you drafted him in the first round, there's no way he could have bought himself out of the contract using the rookie scale wages. Scola would have been stuck there until next season or the season after -- depending on how long his contract is. No one is going to draft a player that has to sit in Europe for FIVE years.

That is how he went from a late first round prospect to a late second round prospect. In fact, there's been reports that Scola and his agent were upset that Scola was drafted in the second round. They knew that if a team held his rights, it'd be a lot harder to ever buy out the contract.

Don't forget that, should Scola's rights be traded, they'd most likely go to a team with cap room to buy him out immediately. There might be teams prepared to wait another year for him, but I anticipate they'd want him sooner.

This is now officially Manu's team and I think he would be even more motivated (if that's possible) playing with his sidekick Luis Scola.
Officially according to whom? I don't think Tim got that memo.

Manu knows this is a business and he'll play with whoever Pop and R.C. put around him. It's not like he needs any of his friends from the national team to come hold his hand. I'm sure he's just as thrilled to have Oberto join the team. And there is still lots of time to sign Scola - nothing is definite that he's out.

I'd frankly be very surprised if the Spurs dumped all of their tradeable assets into a single package, or if they went after a super-star caliber player. With Tim, Manu, and Tony needing shots, the Spurs don't have much room to add another "needs the ball" type of scorer. Unless one of the big 3 is going elsewhere -- which I'd doubt -- I can't see the Spurs making a run at a guy like Pierce, unless Pop and R.C. have plumb lost their minds.

I think the aggregation of tradeable assets is significant because it gives the Spurs some flexibility to approach teams that have the pieces the Spurs need and make offers tailored to those teams needs or desires. You have a long 3 that you're willing to deal? We can offer you a center, or a PF prospect, or a promising wing, or a young point. Or we can offer you a center and a PF prospect; or a PF and a promising wing; or a center and a promising wing; or a promising wing and a young point.

If you're just looking for pieces, you don't need to aggregate a ton of salaries to get that piece -- particularly now that the trading rules allow a 25% + $100K salary margin in trades.

Kori, wouldn't packaging those two players into one trade be a blockbuster deal that would perforce mean a damn fine player coming back.

I don't think you'd trade for a draft pick--unless it was the clippers or Atlanta and you figure the pick is a lottery lock.
