And still, Heavyweight Champion of the NFL.....THE. DENVER. BRONCOS!!!!

Lol at the national sports media picking against the Broncos twice in a row in this game!
Well, if it makes you feel better, plenty of us picked DEN +3 to win on here..

yeah, i was actually impressed by siemian despite the statline. he looked comfortable under his own skin out there... wasn't overwhelmed by the moment/stage despite going up against one of the better defenses

he's no worldbeater but i dont think he's significantly worse than the qb play they had last year

i mean... the one on stewart was flagged, and that was easily the most blatant of the 3. miller one was weak, and was a good no-call imo. that was more facemask bumping than anything.

marshall one could have been called since he led with the crown

I was impressed with Cam and Siemian. Cam got roughed up really bad and some pretty flagrant hits to the head were not called. But he toughed it out, made some really good throws and gave his team a chance to win on the road. Olsen is a beast per the usual too.

Siemian, despite a solid first drive being derailed by a fumble and a somewhat unlucky first pick, overall played damn good. He was shifty when he needed to be, showed some surprising clam under pressure and wasn't afraid to make most any throw.

DEN offense should be better than last year for sure and Siemian will be a reason why (he just has to be better than Manning which looks likely from what I saw).

What a game from CJ Anderson too.
I saw 4 hits to the head at least two significant ones and only 1 was called. Panther fans and some media types say they saw 6. Either way he wont last long like that ...
Horrible refs tonight they also missed some blatant holds on the Denver pass rushers ..
Good game though dware still a beast CJ ran hard and semian was good considering he is basically a rook.

Cam took some real abuse tonight. Just punishing hits both legal and not legal. Still made some incredible throws and plays. Tough dude.

With how much the league protects QB's I was shocked at some of the blows to the head not called. Normally if you just touch a QB helmet it's flagged (whether people like the new rules or not).

But it was a solid game overall with a good balance of great offensive moments and defensive moments.

When DEN got called for a weak hands-to-the-face 5 yard penalty that was an automatic first down on 4th and 21, I thought they were done. Big win for DEN though.

That's an understatement. Unless you watched all the Demver games last season, I don't think you realize how incredibly bad the qb'ing was for all but about two games. It's was barely a step above the Tebow days and that's saying a lot.

I realize his stat line wasn't impressive but he looked much more impressive than papa manning dos for 85% of his games last year. Brock too...he pretty much sucked as well.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that the no calls were bad calls, but it's interesting how we've all been conditioned now to look for helmet to helmet and about it. 10 years ago they were just called hard hits.

Great W..I don't know what to expect this season, wouldn't be surprised with either 7-9 or 10-6, but Siemian looked very solid vs. a pretty good defense..physically, he looks like he should be an upgrade over Manning and Osweiler's 2015 versions(to be fair, it would be virtually impossible to be worse than either of them)..

Fortunately, the AFC West only has 1 good QB as compe ion(Rivers, if he isn't done)..

The defense is going to be noticeably worse without Jackson, unfortunately..it will still be a top 3 D, but nothing close to the SB version, which was by far the greatest defense in NFL history..

  13. #288
Some bad calls on both sides, but most telling moment of the game was when White man Greg Olsen was able to change a call, just by speaking to the ref..unheard of, tbh..

Agreed. The loss of Trevethan wasn't a huge impact but the Jackson loss is, especially after his replacement went down. However, this was still the first game, give it a bit for these guys to get back into the groove. As long as they keep coming up big when it matters (which they're ing incredible at doing), then the Jackson loss won't be felt near as much.

Also, I'm hoping Shane has a breakout year and starts contributing a bit more. If he can play up to his potential along with Shaq improving a bit, this season could end up eerily similar to last. And if it doesn't, who gives a , we got our super bowl when no one else thought it possible.

Super Cam looks awfully terrified when he's all concussed and confused! That makes me lol. I'm looking forward to listening to sports talk tomorrow to hear all the jackasses once again not acknowledge how incredibly wrong they were!

really good win... you'd figure the broncos will get better as the season goes along with siemian getting more comfortable under the spotlight, so this is the time they'd be most vulnerable, but they came up with a W against one of the best teams in the league

as for AFC-W QB's, theres's some weird twilight zone where the top 2 teams (broncos, chiefs) have the 2 worst qb's in the division. oakland does have a chance to climb to #2 if carr has another solid season, though

  17. #292
I expect the 3 AFC West teams to be around 9-7/10-6, should be tight..it'll probably be decided by the head-to-head matchups..

If I'm a Raiders fan, I'd be terrified of the media's kiss of death, though..a lot of hype..

yeah, its looking like miami dolphins syndrome

and there's going to be a big meltdown in raider nation after week 1 if things go south... the raiders are notoriously AWFUL in opening games, and this ones on the road against brees. even if the saints D sucks, wouldn't shock me if brees threw for 500

on paper, the raiders are the better team, though

I was surprised how well Denver rushed the ball last night. Denver only averaged 107 rushing yards per game last season, but last night they ran for 148 yards against a Panthers D that only allowed 88 yards per game last year. Add the fact that Carolina was stacking the box against a QB getting his first career start, and it makes it even more impressive.

  22. #297
Cam Haters blaming him for the loss, when the reality was he made a great final drive after getting cheapshotted multiple times by Donkey. Put them in position to win for what was a chip shot field goal (kickers range plus Mile High).

Also the 4th and 1 *1st down* by Denver, I'm calling bull . Any of you superior techys able to get us a replay of that?

BTW I was pulling for Denver and do not like Newton.

Saints added some pieces on D (Laurinaitis, Kruger, Fairley) and got rid of cancer Rob Ryan, so I'm hoping that they are improved. The secondary is still a question mark, but at least they are giving some new young faces a chance instead of recycling mediocre veterans. The offense is usually not a concern but the offensive line has sucked all preseason, but we did just get Jahri Evans back, who knows the system and apparently is still in good shape. I'm hoping Michael Thomas turns into our next Colston. We'll see.

Yeah that was a vicious hit, but fun to watch all the same. The brutality of the game is why it's such a spectacle. Credit to Denver's defensive gameplan. The Seahawks showed us that you can break the rules (DPI, holding, etc), so long as you do it on every single play...ref fatigue will inevitably set in.

There was a fourth hit where Cam took a forearm to the head (sort of a chop-down maneuver from I think Miller). NFL officiating is just plain ridiculous. Still, it was an enjoyable enough game. Probably the only Broncos game I'll see unless they play Baltimore in the playoffs. We'll see how both teams do. They look beatable this season.
