The 3 mill will be used in part to buy out splitter's contract this year and get him over here..
Scola has already indcated a high salasry that the spurs did not want so basically this where our 2nd rd pick comes from..
The spanelous part of the deal is simply to let this guy calm down for a year and maybe get him over next year..
These are my thoughts at least.

"It's not about money. It's not about playing time. It's not about anything else. They could trade him to San Antonio and he could be the starting point guard, and he would he would say, 'No, I cannot.' "

Hard to fathom. I guess one can have faith that something else is in the works, but there aren't really a lot of possibilities right now.

When a great team is always on the edge of dynastic superiority, this is the sort of move that can ensure that the future is more like Malone and Stockton's last years with Utah than Jordan's last years with Chicago.

It's really just baffling, especially since both of these players (or the talent that could have been acquired for them) could have helped during the Duncan era.

Splitter isn't coming this year. The Spurs can't pay more than $500K toward a buyout. The $3M they got from the Rockets does nothing in that regard.

If Scola bluffed the Spurs into making a divisional rival worlds better, I need to start playing poker with RC Buford.

The Rockets aspect is just salt on the wound. If this were say the Bobcats, we could say that the Spurs were doing Scola and Butler a favor and how they'll get to play and thrive over in the East.

But instead, it's to the one franchise in the NBA who the Spurs have never gotten revenge on. The one franchise down the road who gave the Spurs two of their most bitter defeats in history.

I still can't even begin to understand this.
I hear they're working on a deal with Dallas to send up Parker in exchange for Dampier too.

The thing that kills me is that the trade was made with a division rival...no matter who's involved. Trade these guys to the EC, or at least out of ing Texas.

Sorry Spurs fans, had to post this:

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4964549.html
``We're planning to sign Luis,'' Morey said. ``He's excited to play in Houston. We expect to see him in a Rockets uniform next year. Luis is very motivated to come to the league and is very motivated to play with Yao and Tracy.''

``The Spurs gave us permission to speak with him about three days ago and we had a long conversation. It was very positive on both ends.''

i'm... I... ... I don't know what to say Interesting turn of events I guess... as a Spurs fan I'm a little puzzled as to the reason of such a trade, though I've read most takes in here, and now have some understanding of what might be going on, even though it still doesn't make much sense. Hopefully our front office is cooking something up.

As an Argie I'm half disappointed Scola couldn't showcase his talent in our team, but I'm also glad the man could finally get a chance to play in the NBA. Hopefully this whole thing starts making sense soon.

I'm getting the feeling Beno told them he plans on working out 'real hard' this summer and have a great training camp and they believed him.
