Final: Spurs 101, Kings 85
By Joe Alexander
The Spurs won for the eighth time in their last nine home games, rolling over the Sacramento Kings 101-85. Every Spur played less than 30 minutes.
The Spurs were able to limit the playing time of their key players against the woeful Kings.
Tony Parker had a streaky game with 18 points and six assists but also six turnovers. Tim Duncan had 10 points and three rebounds. Neither Parker nor Duncan played in the fourth quarter.
Manu Ginobili had 10 points and three assists. He played only about two minutes of the fourth quarter and sat out the final nine minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
The only drama of the fourth quarter was who would put the Spurs over 100 points. Ime Udoka scored the 100th point on a free throw with 1:33 left.
With the Spurs' Big Three on the bench down the stretch, this game is slowly grinding toward the finish. The Spurs lead 90-75 with 5:41 left.
George Hill hit a pair of jumpers early in the fourth quarter and is up to eight points. The Spurs lead 86-66 with nine minutes left.
The Spurs opened the fourth quarter with four of their starters on the bench. Matt Bonner was the only starter in, along with George Hill, Manu Ginobili, Bruce Bowen and Kurt Thomas.
THIRD QUARTER
The Spurs held the Kings to 16 points in the third quarter. The Kings are shooting 37 percent and the Spurs rolled to an 80-61 lead heading into the final period.
The Spurs picked up their defensive intensity. That helped spark some fast breaks and they extended their lead to 77-56.
The officials aren't calling the game very tight and the players have expressed some frustration - the Kings' Brad Miller and Spurs' Tony Parker were both hit with technicals after they thought they were fouled.
Tim Duncan made one of two free throws and a basket early in the second half. Other than that, the Spurs don't have much energy the first six minutes of the second half. They lead 65-54.
SECOND QUARTER
Once the Spurs stopped turning the ball over, they took control of the game. The Spurs made only two turnovers in the second quarter and grabbed a 62-45 halftime lead. Tony Parker had 12 points in the half and Roger Mason Jr. had 11. The Spurs shot 62.2 percent.
Tony Parker is up to 10 points and Matt Bonner has nine. The Spurs lead 55-41.
Tim Duncan got off to a slow start. His basket with 8:53 left in the first half gave him his first points of the game. The Spurs lead 49-37.
Bruce Bowen hit a 3-pointer early in the second quarter to extend the Spurs' lead to 12 points. Kurt Thomas made a jumper after a short Kings run. The Spurs lead 38-31.
FIRST QUARTER
Roger Mason Jr. and Matt Bonner combined for 15 points and the Spurs overcame seven turnovers to lead 33-22 at the end of the first quarter.
The Spurs are settling down at both ends. Tony Parker's fast-break basket gave him six points and put the Spurs in front 23-19.
The Spurs had some early turnovers and defensive lapses. Roger Mason has two 3-pointers and eight points and it's tied 17-17 at the first timeout.
Spurs beating a team they're supposed to beat
We took only 15 threes...![]()
Jermichael Finley caught a 35 yard pass!
Double OT tomorrow against the Twolves?
Sometimes
Spurs beat a lousy team. Duncan with only 5 shots. Tony 1st in shot attempts with 17, Manu's second with 9.
Interesting.
Good solid win, guys!!!
The Spurs were just shooting some shots...![]()
