"But that groin looked like it was definitely bothering him when I saw him play [recently], and I've heard that it's something that's been there for about two years."
As an interesting bit of info, I've had my groin for over 40 years now.

Spurs must get healthy. That is the biggest thing. Lets hope Drew is fine, but it is a cause for concern.

I believe Cleveland had nearly double the amount of money to offer Gooden but he still signed with the Spurs. Was it simply a case of Cleveland wanting joe Smith over Gooden (maybe they know something Spurs don't) or Gooden taking less money to play in SA?

How can you have a groin injury for two years? I guess he means he's had a lot of problems in that area. If two offseasons haven't fixed it, I don't think another week will (maybe it will just make it good enough to get by for a while).

Gooden is as good a big as we can get...so we'll take it.

I think this pretty much makes the Spurs the favorites in the West to go to the Finals. With all of our injuries and absence of a solid big outside Duncan, we're 40-20 and 2nd in the West. We've had better records after 60 games in the past, but we can't complain at this point. Pop/Duncan aren't guys that you get around and disrupt a team's chemistry...that's the way it's been since '97....so I wouldn't expect that Gooden would "disrupt" team chemistry. Gooden's presence in the paint will stop free layups and get that extra rebound that we needed last season vs. the Lakers. He's not necessarily an All-Star caliber player, but neither was Gasol when he came in to the Lakers. Like Gasol, Gooden will be there for offensive rebounds/putbacks, and some blocks here and there. Again, we didn't need an All-Star or anything, just a guy to grab a rebound or two.
Disagree. Gooden does not make the spurs the favorites. Gooden is not a defensive interior intimidator. Gooden will be a solid rebounder and bring a little low post scoring. Gasol is a far better all around player.

Is Gooden going to be just a hired gun, a ringer, or is he going to be with the Spurs beyond this season?

I think only his performance for the remainder of the season and the play-offs will determine Gooden's future in SA, and he knows that too.

so lets say he finishes the remainder of the season and ends up being like a 10 pt 8 rb guy. Do you feel the Spurs will make him in offer in the offseason?

I will admit, I didn't want to sign Gooden. However, he is here, and so now I hope he succeeds as a Spur. I hope he is able to bring something to the front court that we have been lacking for a while. I hope his addition will be enough to give us enough juice to take on the Lakers, Celtics, and Cavs in a 7 game series.

If we are able to then re-sign Gooden in the offseason, I really like the way our roster will be shaping up.

    C - Bonner, Ian, Thomas
    PF - Duncan, Gooden, Gist
    SF - Finley, Bowen,
    SG - Mason, Manu, Hairston
    PG - Parker, Hill,

There's no way we can win with Bonner starting.
Coming post-season I hope the starting roster looks like this:

    C- Gooden
    PF - Duncan
    SF - Bowen
    SG - Ginobili
    PG - Parker

    2nd group
    C -Thomas
    PF - Oberto
    SF - Finley
    SG - Mason
    PG - Hill

Ginobili really needs to start along with Bowen.
No more damn experimenting with line-ups come playoff time, for reals.
Ginobili provides that triple threat which makes the other teams make decisions on who to focus on. Bowen will keep the other star in check from the start allowing for single man-man coverage. Gooden is a very capable defender, really mobile compared to Bonner. Bonner should be used in a situational line-up. Let our main players start to rebuild that chemistry. The 2nd group is more than reliable to keep us afloat while starters get a breather.

c'mon Pop, nuff of the moving around and experimenting. time to get solid.

When have you ever known Pop to mess with the lineups come playoff time?

Yeah cause Bonner has done absolutely nothing as a starter this year........sheesh, just cause you dont like the guy, doesnt mean you cant be objective. , I wanted him off the team prior to the season. However, he has opened my eyes. I am glad he is finally getting consistent minutes. If not for his offense, we would be struggling to make the playoffs.
