We've gone over this a couple of times, but the Spurs are currently carrying a cap hold of about $800k on their cap (in lieu of a $525 roster charge) for LJC. The only way they can get that hold removed is to have him sign a form promising to not come over until next summer. That will NOT happen unless something extreme occurs. This is the final year that LJC is guaranteed two seasons of salary under the rookie scale. He's not like Splitter or Mirotic in that he stands to get more as a free agent if he waits. He will get a min contract or even worse, a contract like Covington has in Philly where he's locked up cheap for years. Since he has the unilateral right to accept his tender can come over, that's what he's going to do.

So any talk about him having to impress in the summer league to keep a spot or making a roster projection without him in it is incorrect. There's a 99-percent chance LJC is a Spur come October. The team is already accounting for that financially. That being said, if the Spurs use Bird rights to reup Green and Leonard and go over the cap, they'll still able to get LJC.
Is this like how you were 99% sure the Celtics were drafting for the Spurs this year and were getting Tiago Splitter?

ty attempt at a shot. No one ever said the Celtics WERE drafting for the Spurs. I was simply speculating that they might have been. I wish they had been in retrospect, since at least the return would have been better.

This is what I said regarding Rozier:

I do wonder if Boston drafted Rozier because that's who the Spurs wanted for Splitter. It seems possible to me. He's a short SG, but he's a defensive specialist, kinda like an Avery Bradley. Would be great to put next to Manu and Anderson.

Anyway, no. This isn't speculation. LJC has to sign this season to get guaranteed money. There's no way he won't accept the offer provided the Spurs don't find some way to convince him that they'll make it financially worth his while. He's already given them two years of potential NBA salary. The Spurs cannot force him to go back to Europe (they can never force any player they draft to do so). So acting like he has to convince them to bring him over is not correct.

Free Agency, Rasual Butler, Portland Trail Blazers

Spurs could renounce their rights to him? I think that's an option if he is horrible. Not that it will happen, but it seems like an all or nothing situation at this point.

Cojo needs to stay...that kid is one of a defender, and his shot has greatly improved.

Yes. But that doesn't force LJC back to Europe. It just means he has to fight for a roster spot. And it's horrible form for a team to do that, ESPECIALLY after he agreed to forgo that salary for two years to help the team. I mean, when was the last time any team did that?

As pointed out earlier CoJo is over priced for a third string PG, when we have no backup center on the roster.

I understand that but Parker = oft injured, Manu = oft injured, and the league is a wing and point guard league, excluding Memphis as far as contenders in the West goes.

As things stand right now, CoJo is the backup point guard and Patty is the backup off guard.

Thabeet as a next to last option. TD could probably work wonders with the kid.

Had his best season in 5 years last year, averaged almost 8 points a game. He can still shoot. Idk if there's anything left to milk out of a guy who's 36 though.

I don't want any washed up player, but if the Spurs are going to take one of them, I'll take Rasual over Caron Butler or Prince..

My concern is not having big that shows on PiR. Timmy did a better than usual job last year, but Tiago (when healthy) had been the Spurs best big in showing and getting back.

While irrelevant this year, I kid you not that we should target re-signing Tiago next year when he's a free agent. He doesn't seem to harbor ill will (as much as that can be judged by his Twitter account).

I would not be surprised at all to see Splitter back. ATL would not have had the money for a FA more worthwhile than Tiago so it made sense. I bet Tiago is back.

Intriguing... Can you clarify the how and when of such a thing maybe taking place?

I'm interested to see if LJC has lost any mobility/athleticism after tearing his ACL (that's the injury he suffered, right?). Has anyone heard anything regarding how he bounced back from that?

And Rasual Butler wouldn't be terrible...would probably prefer both Ellington and Alan Anderson though.

It's simple, next time he's a free agent. He has 2 years more on his contract, but he might have a player option (don't know). If so, he could exercise it and become a free agent as soon as next year.

EDIT: None of the contract info I've seen mention an option. So Tiago might be under contract until summer of 2017.

Thank you. That's what I figured and was wondering if he was alluding to some... alternative.
