If I were a Wizards fan (and praise allah I am not), I would be concerned that Alex Sarr isn't dominating, or even really doing anything in, this game

If I was the Wizards brass I’d have Branham and Wesley out here and I’m making Branham full court press every possession.

Is there any kind of rule that says after so many years of NBA experience a player is no longer eligible to play Summer League? I’ve never heard of one, but maybe it’s an unspoken thing?

I’m told there is still no official injury designation for Dylan Harper (groin). He’ll have a final status for tomorrow’s #Spurs vs. #Mavericks game after a team walkthrough in the morning. #PorVida

I don’t think there is a written rule but I think the unwritten rule is if you’re going into your 3rd year or later then you shouldn’t be in summer league.

I was just joking about Branham and Wesley tho.

I know Amare Stoudemire played SL when he was in his mid 30s. But I think he was trying to make a comeback so he wasn’t assigned there by a team.

They'll have to. He looks a lot the same to me. Gets gobbled up handling the ball, great connective passer, great hands, can shoot. He blew up last SL too but we'll see again how he fares against actual teams.

The Spurs had Ayres and Baynes out there, so there's no age or tenure limit. I get not bringing Wemby or even Castle back for their second seasons, but they should have had Branham and Wesley out there last year. I think they want to give the other guys time to shine, as they have to try to get a contract with another team. But I think 2015 showed us that if you can get a good system set up, you get a chance to put other players into roles more suited to their futures. Sure, some lower-level team might see DJG's showcase and think he could be a solid option on their club, but by and large, a role-player showing themselves to be a mediocre star against subpar compe ion isn't going to help as much as them showing they can defend, run off screens and box out.

The scoring is nice of course, but the real positive sign for Reed Sheppard is all the other stuff that impacts the game: he finished with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks in 33 minutes... guys that aren't well rounded rarely flirt with 5x5s like that.

There's no way he can play together with FVV.
I don't think he can be anything more than a solid starter because of his size, but it's obvious he's got no future in Houston, needs to ask to be moved.
He was the third pick and 15mpg is the absolute most he'll get in this upcoming season, maybe not even that considering how deep the Rockets are.

Yeah, I agree. For his own good, he should ask for a trade. I thought he might have been headed somewhere in the trade with Phoenix, but I am guessing the Rockets wanted to keep him.

FVV has little to do with Sheppard's future in Houston long term, they just declined their option and signed him to a much cheaper 2 year contract, it's clear they see him as a stop gap. If Sheppard proves he can perform at the NBA level anywhere near what he's done elsewhere (G League, Summer League, College) FVV isn't going to stop him from getting playing time. It's about him.

Also, Houston FO really believes in their players, they're not the kind to turn around and shop them instantly. I think they give Sheppard at least one more season to prove himself (likely more), except if Giannis becomes available.

They're going all in over these 2 or 3 years while they have KD, there won't be any patience for young players that aren't ready.
FVV is their only reliable traditional playmaker and unless Sheppard makes a huge leap, he won't be getting more than 15mpg anytime soon.
And each season of not getting 25-30mpg is another year of stagnation.

To be fair, a prime Steph Curry wouldn't pair well with FVV either. Micro-sized backcourts don't work 99% of the time in the NBA. And while I agree that 15-20mpg for a 3rd pick feels like an odd use of assets, Houston is one of the few teams with enough depth to actually make it work. If they challenge for a le the next two years with Durant & co., then FVV's contract is up and Sheppard becomes in theory his full time replacement.

Amen Thompson can cover for some of Reed's shortcomings. I agree that Van Vleet doesn't factor a ton into Sheppard's future. Sheppard could have a great year playing against Durant's gravity. He can develop what he's lacking. His handles really aren't great, which is pretty surprising. You'd want closer to a Steve Nash level of handle and awareness. A weak-side defender stripped him a couple times last night he never saw coming.

I'm interested in seeing how Kon plays this year. To me he's what Sheppard was supposed to be. I think he's a better ball-handler, better playmaker, just plain bigger, stronger, and is a better defender. His size and handles may let him get shots off that Sheppard can't.

Don’t think so. I just don’t think there is much upside for the player, unless you’re a complete dark horse like a Gary Neal or this Garcia kid.

If you dominate “you’re suppose to” and if you underperform then you have bigger issues ahead.

We get Dylan Harper basketball today!!!

Will be watching on tape delay, but looking forward to it.

Hopefully Flagg’s advisors get to him with a razor before the game and the Dirtbag Cooper era ends before it really gets going

They are in a roster crunch so honestly they are probably just planning on cutting Branham and Wesley.
