Yeah, I would do that trade in a heartbeat, I was just saying it would suck losing a good three point shooter. Maggette would make that up though.

Possible...but again, they've got time...
10 days and counting....
If the Spurs have plans like some here suggest of trading Oberto or another big for a PG.
the league rules reward perimeter players who attack the basket and the spurs have no-one that could do this. i could live without Barry's 3's, we still have a capable manu and bonner was hitting that shot before he got injured. getting a slasher that can draw fouls and create foul problems for the opposing team is what we need.
Six posts on the active roster would provide a lot of fouls if they want to pummel players in the paint during the playoffs.
Doubt it. The Spurs' first order of business was getting under the luxury threshold by any means possible. This trade completed that task.
I thought the trade was going to be Williams for Hermann, a 2nd rounder and cash. But the Spurs did better than that because Ely >>>> Hermann.
Hmm sounds like a plan to me, lets play dirty!![]()
Nice pick up for the Spurs.![]()
yes he was,you right, but I donīt know whatīs gonna happen when he gets back.+elson and oberto can share the C spot, and looks like this guy will be TDīs buck up.
I really think POP is done with this small ball bull .
Pop may play bonner too,he has a decent mid and long range shot too.But not 16 mpg like he was playing before this trade.
Horry is getting screw if this work out for the spurs, cause i think Pop is coming back to the basics, just old school basketball, with 2 guards,2 forwads(SF and PF)and a Center.
SMALL BALL.

True, but they like everyone on this board know that they have to address their backup PG issue along with trying to get a young and athletic three. They now have seven guys who play the four or five. At least one of them has to go.
Pipe dream... let me have it.
If Ely is re-signed, you can officially kiss Scola goodbye. Ely and Scola are pretty damn close to the same player.
works for me.
we gave up nothing, got a lil something and save cash.
mission accomplished for peter.
now maybe we can add someone who can spell tony for 10 minutes a night.
Yeah, because fantasy trades can't be posted on here?
I look forward to the insane debate this summer on how much Melvin Ely is worth a year.
Well, my question referred back to the idea of Butler as a sweetner for getting Maggette.
I don't think the backup point guard question is even remotely as critical as the swingman athleticism issue. And at some point you're going to want six fouls to throw at Yao or Shaq in the playoffs. So if they're not going to play Butler, I would be in favor of them using him to get Maggette and keep Oberto for the 1/8 games he's useful.
At this point, I'd hate to do it. However if it meant getting the Maggette deal done and perhaps a backup PG (Ewing) in return, I'd do that deal.
Are Butler and Elson at all tradeable right now, though? I don't know the new CBA very well... have they removed the base-year compensation issues that made it virtually impossible to trade a signed free agent in the first year of his contract?
i think if he comes back 100% and his shooting is fine he'll play minutes at the 3 spot, specially if Fin struggles.
So when is Ely going to play with us? Probably after the break right?
So Ely is in a contract year? That explains why he wants more playing time and could be a blessing in disguise for the Spurs.
I guess my Gerald Wallace as a Spur dream is over.
