Any Spurs fan that is worrying about the reg season needs to chill. The playoffs can change things in a hurry. If Barry can be as effective as he has been in the past, that will make a whole lot of difference in our perimeter game, which lately has been poor as of late.

    No worries......

As of right now the Spurs should be gearing up for the playoffs. What I'm seeing is an inability to hit the outside shot with any consistency as well as not rebounding as effectively as I wluld like them to do. Hopefully I would like to blame all of this on such a brutal achedule lately (and I do think this has something to do with it - they look tired at times) but that little nagging sense of doubt/concern still remains. Since our game plan is based on inside to out - this concerns me. And its not just about the regular season per se. We are failing to execute down the stretch. When Barry gets back and hits those shots then that will help tremendously but improvement is still needed and time is running out.

Am I worried? To a certain extent I am but not jumping off the wagon now or ever. The Spurs are like a car engine that's missing and needs a little fine tuning.

Thankfully when the playoffs come everyone has the same amount of rest with no B2Bs.

I don't see any team in the West beating SPurs 4 times in the playoffs. I just don't see it.

Maybe the Lakers if Bynum and Gasol come in full force. Nobody else.

Stop crying spur fans. Spurs are allright

Non-believer should remember last year : Spurs weren't fine at all during the regular season and they dominate the playoffs by losing only 4 games.

Spurs struggle this year are a little different but Spurs could do the same thing than last year. This year team, while being one year older, is better, on the paper, than last year team.

    I still believe in Spurs.

Well, the acious part of their schedule is over. They get back Barry at the end of the week which will allow the Spurs to reduce the minutes of Manu, Bowen, and Finley a little.

Thanks Timvp. We all need to just calm down and understand that this team will pull it out. They have the experience and as long as they have Duncan, they will never quit. This is still our championship to defend.

    BELIEVE.

Brutalis, just because you use big words doesn't make you right.

DubMcDub, you have been officially shut down in this thread. You are playing the "ohh wahh I didnt do anything stop attacking me" card and its embarassing. Go back to being like all the other self loathing mav fans because we all know deep down the emo in you is screaming to be let out.

Besides those two, everyone is bringing up very good points just from two different opinions. It just all depends on how you look at it. In my opinion both sides are correct, but we will truly see who is RIGHT once the season ends and the real season begins.

The only problem is, this year in the WC, the Regular Season actually matters because a team that fails late could be knocked out by a team that surges late!

Two things that lead me to believe we haven't seen the team that will go into the playoffs yet:

    1. With early injuries to the big three plus Barry, the team hasn't had as much time together on the court as in previous years. The early March playoff run might not happen until late March because they haven't been "pounding the rock" as a team long enough yet.

    2. The Spurs have never acquired a player as good as Thomas mid season in the Duncan era. This is also going to take some time to iron out chemistry wise. Especially defensively.

    Spurs Peak AFTER March.

I think you should at least give a lil' love to Rudy T, if you're gonna steal his line. Wouldn't want him to sue you for plagarism.

There are so many ways to reply to that I don't know where to start. I guess in this moment I will say.. I'm so sorry I use big words, whatever they are. And that you can't comprehend them either apparently. Way to make a point there, too.

    of course they're fine.

I mean as long as they're not missing the playoffs the spurs are damn fine.

TD always plays better and harder in the playoffs, Barrys comin back, Michael Finley can't suck forever, Thomas is only going to get more familiar with our system same for Damon, Horrys gonna play harder(we saw flashes of it last night)...no use for the doom and gloom bs. Yes it sucks to give up 22 point leads, lose by 25, but like that happens sometimes, its not the end season.

Little worried about the 4 game slide this late in the season....but it could actually work out in our favor. As Whottt said earlier, in repeat years Spurs always start off hot going into the playoffs then flame out. Maybe having them go through this late in the season will give them the boost and urgency they need to make a deep playoff push.

But you have owned the table in this thread and you got props for that from me.
You've got to be kidding me. How exactly has DubMcDub owned anyone? All he has done is come into this thread dismissing timivp's original post as just a Spurs fan trying to convince himself that everything's okay. Tell me what purpose he had in coming into this thread other than to slam at the few Spurs fans still believing in their team? I saw no intent on his part to bring his objectivity in the argument. If there was, he would have followed his response with logical reasons he believed timvp was wrong. I saw none of that. He made no attempt at pointing out which parts of timvp's post he disagreed with. I don't blame timvp if he thought this response:

I think the Spurs will be alright, but there is absolutely nothing about the original post here that cries, "Reason." This is a Spurs fan trying to convince himself that everything is ok.
to his post was another arrogant Mav fan bringing in no real substance to the thread. After all, this mav fan never really made an attempt at making an argument to back up why he thought timvp was wrong.

All he did was go off on how arrogant Spurs fans were, completely ignoring the original post nor bringing in any real thoughts about it.

Honestly, I don't get where this Mav fan gets off calling out timvp's post as having no reason.
Emotional loss. Four losses in a row is tough to stomach, especially late in the season when the team should be getting ready for the playoffs.

Am I worried? You have to be a little bit worried because there will come a time when the Spurs just don't have it anymore. However, I just don't think we've reached that point in time.

The Spurs are definitely struggling right now but the pieces are still there to make a championship run.
He acknowledges that the Spurs are struggling, and that it was a tough loss late in the season, but then mentions that you can't dismiss the Spurs because they haven't gotten to the point where they start fading. Then he goes on to support his assertion with reasons why he thinks they will be alright. I saw none of that in the Mav fan's response. All I saw was him crying for something unrelated to the topic.
    Exactly.

What I think is even funnier about the criticisms of timvp's optimistic post is the assertions that his opinions are founded primarily on arrogance or a lack of reason.

I don't know if one fan or another knows more or less about winning NBA championships. I will venture a guess, though, as noted elsewhere, that hard-core Spurs fans know more about the Spurs than fans of other teams.

If a Spurs fan, having a relatively strong background in the recent history of that team, believes he sees something in their play, coupled with his knowledge of the players on that team that suggests reason for optimism, that's not an opinion founded on arrogance or one formed without reasoned thought. It strikes me as an opinion founded upon comparing historical observations with current observations, which is the hallmark of any predictive analysis.

With respect to the Spurs, a Spurs fan can justify the ultimate optimistic view with the knowledge that certain things have been indicative of past Spurs championship teams. Of course every year is different and every Spurs le winner has been different, but I don't think timvp ever questioned that. Instead, he noted that he knows and (more importantly) sees things about this Spurs team that suggests to him that things aren't as bad as they might seem.

That's not a particularly arrogant view; nor is it an unreasonable one per se.

Frankly, it strikes me as substantially more arrogant to baldly state that a post lacks reasoning without explaining why that is so.
