Ultimately Miley is right that if there's going to be any concessions or political deal, it'll have to come from Ukraine, not the US.
That's the sucker (Milly) who threatened to assassinate President Trump on his last day in office. Oh, he's a real .

    ---

& horse on your point, El. It'll come from the US, and therefore it ain't comin'.

"Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), has told The Economist that the Ukrainian Defence Forces might manage to break Russia's land corridor with occupied Crimea before the onset of winter. In desperation, the Russians have deployed their reserves prematurely."

Z declared that the only way Ukraine can exact victory is if Russia gives up the 20% they hold, including the Zap plant and Southern Water and crosses back over into Russia.
He can change his stance based on the cir stances, like many politicians do.

In March 2022, when it wasn't as clear just how large the aid Ukraine would get would be, Zelensky said this:

"Security guarantees and neutrality, non-nuclear status of our state. We are ready to go for it. This is the most important point..."

"Keep them free" doesn't speak to preservation of territorial integrity at all. In fact, it's the exact words I would use to describe my support for Ukraine. Give what is necessary to hold the territory they control (i.e., keep them free), but not to spend endless resources hopelessly trying to eject Russia from Crimea in an endless war.
That's you putting words into Miley's mouth. Miley was clear as well that Ukraine, and not the US, will decide what's acceptable.

I quote Miley again, from your post: “up to Ukraine to decide how or when or if they will negotiate with the Russians.”

I think we're in agreement that Ukraine will decide their fate, and the US will support them militarily and economically until they do

Nothing in any of his statements states clearly and explicitly that Ukraine's full territorial integrity must be preserved at our expense. Let me repost from the article...

But he was equally resolute in his belief that the approaching seasonal shift, when pace of combat is expected to slow, could provide “a window” to a political solution — as pushing Russia out of Ukraine completely would be “a very difficult task,”

So what's the long term resolution?

I'm thinking Ukraine is eligible for EU membership but prohibited from joining NATO for a period of time like 25+ years.

Sidenote: some of that Far-East land Ukraine should just hand over. Nation will be plenty busy rebuilding the foundation.

Why don’t you just join the ranks and stop boring everyone with what you really want to say?

Most likely this will end in a frozen conflict, maybe with some sort of implicit or explicit ceasefire agreement that effectively changes the borders in Russia's favor.

Any agreement won't be based on trust but aligned interests. Neither side wants the war to go on forever, especially if they're not gaining much for the cost in lives and money.

Ukraine doesn't have the manpower to take back all the territory. This is obvious.

Even if Ukraine joins EU soon, it will take years before foreigners have consistent access to the Far-East. Yah it will remain this borderless area with continued skirmishes.

Ukraine is arguably too large for its own good. If they can't themselves keep that land then at some point maybe it's better off returning to Russian hands.

It's irresponsible to pump a foreign nation with "steroids" knowing sooner than later the drugs will run dry.

Sidenote: Ukraine is nearly the same size of Germany & Poland combined.

no. Ukraine in the EU and NATO in less than 5 years. Fast track.

Russia gets the all the way out. If we are lucky it decolonizes.

Haha. It's about finding a fair resolution. Not hating or kissing.

Except for $$$, there is little gained from including Ukraine in NATO today. Just instigates neighboring nations.

Joining EU is good enough. Protection and allows rebuilding (West buying everything)
