Pussy couldn’t even meet with Pop without uncle Denny holding his hand.
As long as he's healthy and returns to form, other teams won't care about how aloof, awkward, etc., he is. They'll see a 27-28 year old, top 5 player, signed for the next 5 years. Someone fitting that criteria on the trade market is damn near unprecedented. They will line up to pay a premium for that.
There's also this: If he's backing playing, among the team day in and day out, things could easily change and he could be reinvested in a year. That's not truly happening based on conversations in the off season (even if this gets resolved and he signs the extension, it'll just be lip service both ways because it's in both sides best interest).

What did the Bucks get for a 27 year old Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? What did the Sixers get for a 28 year old Charles Barkley?
He's either a china doll or he hates the team so much he quit. If he's a china doll who can't come back from a minor injury then that contract will become untradeable once everyone sees him next season. If he hates the team he'll be a cancer again. He completely ed himself out of that extension with the way he handled this season and his alleged rehab. I don't know what he was thinking. He could have just acted normal, gotten the supermax extension, and then acted like a next season and gotten his trade to a big market next summer. There's also this: If he's backing playing, among the team day in and day out, things could easily change in a year. Also, no they cannot trade him before the supermax contract kicks in. When someone signs a supermax deal you cannot trade them for a calendar year. So when the Spurs would be trading Kawhi they'd be trading him based on the amount of his first year in the supermax contract. So now they're almost certainly taking back a really bad contract to match that $38 million first year salary on the extension instead of having to match $20 million in a trade this summer or this season.
TD 21 is usually on point, but he is guilty of overrating this current Leonard package.. This dude value has completely nosedived ever since he limped out of Game 1 vs the Warriors: health, leadership, compe ive desire all took a hit in the space of 12 months and he is a year older having not played two consecutive basketball games since April 2017..
He was thinking that this summer would be his chance to join a superteam, so he tried to force the Spurs’ hand. Now he’s going to end up basically ed.
You must earn the money, sitting on the bench for a more than a year having no surgeries it could mean you are the cancer.
He should play on other team, with those coaches that will make him play 40 min per night so we can see what is he made of.
Were they signed for the next 5 years?
You're being emotional instead of rational. I hate to be redundant, but you're clearly viewing what I'm saying through the lens of rewarding him, when in actuality it's about gaining leverage.
Also, don't lose sight of how rare superstars are just because this franchise has had one for most of the past 29 years. In that regard, their luck is due to run out. Rush to trade him for some underwhelming return out of anger and frustration and it might be 15, 20, 25 or more years until the next one comes along.
20 mins till draft. Guess spurs rolling into training camp w the quitter.
The Bucks got Elmore Smith, Brian Winters, Dave Meyers, and Junior Bridgeman for Kareem......the latter 2 supposedly blue chippers.
The Sixers got Jeff Hornacek, Tim Perry, and Andrew Lang for Chuck.
????
If a trade happens, we probably wouldn't know until that pick that is involved happens.
I'd still sign him to a supermax, but no no_trade clause
Why sign him when I'll never forgive him for his shenanigans?
Because if he sucks or falls apart ... Then they'll have to rebuild.
They'd have to rebuild anyway. So what's the big deal? If he's hurt multiple years then they can tank proper with that much of the cap in street clothes.
But the real bonus ... Knowing how pissed his handlers will be at not being able to drain him 24/7 in Los Angeles. Knowing they'll never get endorsements. Knowing that Kawhi will retreat into his s and not hustle for that new shoe money.
It'll be great.
yeah, supermax + no no trade clause.
spurs should make a trade as opposed to letting him walk for nothing but they shouldn't be in any rush.
if kawhi is really 100% then his trade value will just rise this season. unless he decides to not play...
LOL going to the emotion card when I bring up that it's a ton of money and a huge commitment that could badly backfire without giving much upside. I'm conditioning on the only two possible events to explain this season: (1) he really couldn't get healthy coming back from a minor injury, in which case he'll probably be hurt again next season and impossible to trade or (2) he hates the team so much he held out for a season, in which case he's going to demand a trade in a year when the Spurs will be allowed to move him and will need to take $38 million worth of assets back. So not only do you get nothing approaching equal value as we have seen in the vast majority of superstar trades ever executed, you also get to take on a contract that puts you in the luxury tax just like if you kept Leonard.
I would absolutely want to have a motivated, healthy, and committed Kawhi at the expense of being in the luxury tax, but I don't want 45 cents on the dollar and still paying luxury tax in the best case.
The Clippers even unloaded Blake Griffin. The Spurs will be able to get off Kawhi’s contract if they so desire.
Basically. No extension and no trade this offseason so his group could work for a trade to preferred destination sometime next season. Also he'll have to actually play for the Spurs next season to prove that he is indeed "100% healthy". Also probably no reference from the Spurs. He'll still get a good contract from another team but the opportunity forgone is not small.
Kawhi for now, but goddamn Colin Cowherd and Jason Whitlock are the two biggest cuck's/ bags always ripping on Pop. that.
All of a sudden they are on Kawhi's nuts because he's challenging Pop, but just a year ago they were dismissing Kawhi as a system player.
Gotta get this off my chest /endrant
Your real problem was listening to Cowherd in the first place, brotha.
Shams said the Spurs even talked to teams in the East "like the Wizards". WTF do the Wizards even have to offer...
No . The same franchise that refused to let an injured Duncan play to try to defend a le is going to try to screw over their best player for a short term gain? I hated hearing these comparisons to Isaiah Thomas in Boston as if the Spurs have ever run their players into the ground.
