I wonder if you can read the newspaper out loud ?![]()
those bas s dont stop calling me and blocking the number doesnt help because they use different lines but thanks to this i will never buy a paper again.
i say um!
did ST get a lawyer or did ST reply back to the letter stating that they have upset the ST nation and a boycott of the website and paper was in order?
I wonder if you can read the newspaper out loud ?![]()
I really do not understand people getting bent out of shape because a company is enforcing its legal rights. It is the same reason why Kori and LJ do not allow people to post links to game feeds.
It's the way they did it more than anything.
This. I believe that LJ mentioned earlier in the thread that a similar issue came up with spurs.com and it was easily righted with an email. The fact that they paid their lawyer send a letter instead of just emailing and asking is the real issue at hand.
It's like the guy who buys a Ferrari to overcompensate for his lack of ability to take home a good looking girl. Sure he has the money to do it, but it doesn't change the fact that they guys that have the looks and game to take home any woman they want are still going to laugh at him.
Are these clowns serious?
It was a joke, I thought.
Who is that in your sig?
You don’t need to post here Houstonian fan. Go to our site and you’ll find much more valuable information….. ST is using our intellectual property,. Basically, all info in this site is our property… we own most of what’s being said here… not as much as the Jazz owns your club…. but you get the point right?
So that's what it's good for (I just assumed you were supposed to read it)?
i generally dont convers with the enemy but since your team sucks i will cut you a break like i did for the hornets fan........nicole bahls
just type her name in the search and you can find some great pictures![]()
Spurs.com is part of a locally-owned franchise while the Express-News is part of a multi-conglomerate media enterprise. It only makes sense that they would send an official letter through an attorney for any situation such as this. They surely have done it many times to sites that post entire articles from any of their many newspapers, magazines... Of course, they want written, legal notification sent via first class mail.
Don't be surprised at the way they handled it. Some attornies must get paid extra for doing things ass-backwards. What is that bit about limited excerpts being "less than two sentences"? Doesn't that mean one sentence? Couldn't they just say that?
It sounds like they are saying that, if they wanted to, they could prosecute for excerpts shorter than a single sentence. But what if they change their minds in the future, and decide to exercise their full rights? I don't want to get in trouble for excerpting McDonald if I happen to use any of HIS words... like "rebound", or "3-pointer".
The way the letter opened was great, though. "It has come to our attention..."
I like that. The Distress News is always right on top of things, aren't they? I got one of my inside contacts to give me copies of the last three letters they sent out:
1. Dear Mr. Woods. It has recently come to our attention that you have missed several golfing tournaments this season. We would like to send one of our reporters to get an interview, and discuss your reasons for taking a break from the game. For your convenience, she will come any time you want her to.
2. Dear Mr. Cowell. It has recently come to our attention that you have had some success hosting a television talent show. We are considering a series featuring you, Ed Sullivan, and Chuck Barris. Since you obviously will need publicity for your new program, we will notify you when and where we wish to interview you, just as soon as we locate the other two stars.
3. Dear Mr. Gervin. It has recently come to our attention that...
It's obvious why they always win the annual No , Sherlock awards for journalism.
Actually, both are part of much larger enterprises. If you look at the web address for Spurs.com, there are three very important letters there...and very few places are more possessive of their material than the NBA is.
Furthermore, the EN did a piece on ST in May of 2008, in which they talked about the community here and interviewed Kori and several members about the makeup of the board. Articles had been getting posted years before that and continued to get posted up to the 5th of this month, when the EN decided to knee jerk and call their lawyer. This was not some random site/magazine that was stealing articles. It was a site that they had collaborated with before in a friendly manner. I can't help but feel like there was more to this than meets the eye.
No one can tell me with a straight face that after all these years and a special piece about ST they had not known about the articles getting posted until now. If they were going to do an article about ST, they had to have wandered around the site a little bit...and it only takes a couple of clicks to find a fully posted EN article. The only thing I can figure is that one or more of the EN writers has been poking around the site and has seen all the negative comments that people here have saying about their articles. After that they got pissed off and decided to bring out the Ferrari so they attempt to show everyone who they were dealing with. And of course, they wind up getting laughed at...again.
You really think that A: They don't have a lawyer on retainer or on staff, and B: It isn't a form letter?
Yea, it's like they're some kind of transformers that transformed their at ude toward Spurstalk!
We usually on their articles and if I recall they lost writers within the last few months that posters liked, so maybe they have staff that take issue with us ting on their work. Rather than take it as a rough estimate of what actual sports fans think, they'd just rather flex on us to remind us of the table we're eating at. That's cool, vatos. We'll adapt. And by adapt I mean not even give a about your little ancient printed paper cuz it's sucked since the Jalepeno guy stopped doing movie reviews.
express news acts like all they cover is spurs.. theyve got bigger issues to deal with than spurstalk
This demand letter was written in house. No outside counsel was retained. That, along with the fact that the demand letter is 1 page long, contains no mention of legal authority, and in all likelihood is a form letter than some first year associate spent 20 minutes on hardly conforms with the big bad lawyers rolling out their ferraris or some other drivel.
They're protecting their copyright. It's their rights, and if people really are upset about the level of spurs coverage provided by SAXN, they should shut the up, click the link, and get the papers out of the ter so they can hire better journalists.
you shut up
this thread is on its last leg, getting to be old news
No more Buck Harvey headlines effing up the forum....ever.
Awesome
I seldom read the SN articles(although the Harvey headlines annoy the out of me and always have, plus imb he's a closet Spurs hater) so I really couldn't care less about theri no longer being any EN articles on the site...I am actually surprised anyone cares much.
I am trying to get worked up about this but I really just can't. I wonder how much of it has to do with the negative feedback(often deserved but not always) the EN articles routinely get on this site...
Is SR no longer posting their articles in full?
this is the same thought that I had. Every EN article on the spurs is posted here, and trashed relentlessly.
And they have the nerve to complain.![]()
