I read somewhere that the duration of the main faulting was over 3 minutes. And the 2004 quake had a faulting length of up to 8 minutes(!). Can't imagine sitting through that for 180 seconds.

Living in SoCal, the inevitable "Are You Ready for the Big One' fear-ridden segments will commence in not too long. I don't know though, I think it will be utter chaos when a 8.0+ hits the L.A. area. I mean, you see how the fine citizens of the city act when they win a sports championship. Just imagine when there isn't the basic necessities to be had after such a disaster. People will act the fool...and I should seriously consider the no guns mantra I've lived by for most of my life.

This is just honestly horrifying to see the pictures that have surfaced after the quake.

The government is definitely capable of creating this disasters. There are large machines located in secret, remote unknown islands that generate earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes on the governments que in order to create chaos then restore order thruout the world.
