Why stop there. Let's try and sign Yao Ming too. TD and Yao - Twin Tower baby! Tbh, this is an excellent signing. I knew FO would not do anything drastic and come out with nothing. They're too smart for that. TMac has better shooting percentage than SJax, excellent ballhandling, passing and facilitatng. Will not shy from taking big shot, not known for D but good size body. Most of all, here's chance to be in a winning team, he will take advantage of this chance and maybe even get that ring finally - well maybe. Go Spurs Go!
Then we'd be the San Antonio Rockets, tbh.

Only team he was ever on that advanced out of the first was the 2009 Rockets, and he was in street clothes the entire playoffs.
That counts! I mean technically he was on the team...

Now we can waive Baynes sorry ass and bring Jax back and be Super Deep?...That would be awesome, though it will not happen..We still need Jax toughness in the playoffs and an extra defender just in ase we do end up against the Thunder in the end of the Playoffs

T-Mac via Facebook a couple hours ago:

"Glad to be a Spur. It will be an honor to play for this great organization and the amazing city of San Antonio."

Not sure if anyone had posted that yet.
Glad that TMac understands how amazing we truly are! A moonlit stroll down Austin Highway. A frozen Rita at Nicha's. And a 3 am stumble down South Alamo on the first Friday in August. The Tone, baby!!! Riiiiiiight???

Diaw got significant time immediately after he was brought in, and he had zero experience in the system. The reason for that was because the Spurs were glaringly thin on the front line...just like they are on the wing right now.

I don't think anyone can really predict how TMac would be used. History says he won't see much time, but with Jackson gone and Manu and Diaw possibly out for the first round, the Spurs will likely need all hands on deck. Kawhi, Green, and Neal can't hold down both SG and SF by themselves.

If they were just going to leave him on the bench, injuries notwithstanding, what is the point of bringing him in at all?
Diaw also played with the French NT with Parker and they ran a lot of Spurs sets.

I don't know how TMac DOESN'T get time. I say he gets 5 -7 minutes per game to start, then gets 10 -12 minutes for the remainder of the playoffs. I wonder if his signing was already in the works before Jack was cut?

He has great court vision and can set people up for easy baskets. That alone makes me in favor of the move. The Spurs could use somebody else who can help create a shot for himself or a teammate.

Problem is his defense is probably going to be pretty bad so lets just hope he can have a positive affect offensively to make up for that.
So long as he's not wandering in the paint with Gary Neal or Danny Green while there guys are shooting 3's we'll be okay.

Yesterday Bonner was saying that the 3 position is the easiest and simplest position in the offense, McGrady only needs to know how to stand in the corner so he should be fine.

It has come to this for my Spurs: They've brought back TMac from China while Rockets & Lakers fight for right to play Spurs instead of OKC.

I forget what year it was where he was saying before the playoffs that it was on him if the Rockets didn't get out of the first round. They ended up not getting out of the first round.

NBA players don't play for free.
Players don't get paid a salary for their playoff games. Instead, the players get a pool of money to divide among themselves in whatever way they see fit. Usually, highly paid players will allow others to take the money, so players like the Big Three will in fact most likely play for free.

Players only get paid for the regular season. T-Mac himself said that he won't play tomorrow vs Minnesota. Are the Spurs going to pay him anything at all? Are they even allowed to?
McGrady playing tomorrow should not affect whether or not he gets paid. If he's on the roster as of today, then he'll get the pro-rated share of the vet minimum (about $15k) although the Spurs should only be on the hook for about $10.4k, since the league should pay the rest. Those are rough numbers derived by dividing the salary by 2/170. I didn't actually look up to see how long the season was this year.

McGrady has spent the season playing professionally in China after failing to land an NBA job. The former All-Star and MVP candidate played with the Hawks last season and averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 assists.

McGrady is still in pursuit of his first second-round playoff appearance as a member of the active roster.

I remember that to...seems like so long ago. Tmac won't be remembered for his playoff successes, that's for sure. It would be funny though if he plays really well and is an integral part of a spurs championship run, ala big dog back in 07...I don't think it's realistic but it would be fitting(kind of).

Ah crap...so he hasn't gotten out of the first round? Well, contrary to my last comment, it'd be more fitting if the spurs get knocked out in the first round. Smh.

In fact he's been apart of some major collapses in the playoffs.

Past their prime, but what could have happened had Duncan signed with the Magic so many years ago.
I've seen this WAY too many times. It was never going to be TMac/Duncan. Orlando had already signed Hill. TMac was only signed when Tim said no.

Upside: Glenn Robinson in '05 playoffs, big spot minutes in a le run.

Downside: Never makes it out of the first round or whatever.

2014 we'll see it, we'll coax Grant Hill to the fold, the "old 3"

Why do people assume hes a loser? His Magic were an 8th seed that one year they gave up that 3-1 lead to Detroit, and they only had that lead because of how amazing Tmac was. He was a dumbass for claiming victory before the series was over but thats a completely different subject. He never failed to produce in the playoffs, his teams just werent very good.

Not that that matters since hes a different player now. But its a solid signing, Leonard cant play all game and hes a much better option at SF than Green/Manu tbh.
Exactly. People scoff TMac, but the two years that Kobe didn't have O'Neal or Gasol he was out of the playoffs and first round fodder. TMac never had that.

That is awesome. Great signing. Dude can score, pass with the best of them, has size to defend. Good stuff. Hopefully he will be here for next season.
