they just said he is from the euro league
channel 29 is reporting that a team mate of manus will be joining the spurs
they just said he is from the euro league
Oberto has just said in an argentinean newspaper that he had a "pre-arrangement" signed with the team long ago and that the Spurs decided to "execute" it now...
My grandma had a tooth like that, I guess she was gangsta too.

now that we are going sign aberto.should we trade rasho now for a good player or wait a year and take a chance on his value going down?
gosh, that one hasn't been discussed anywhere today.
Who is WE?

I heard that from my reporter friend in Argentina. I believe a pre-arrangement is completely illegal, so he probably shouldn't have said that.Oberto has just said in an argentinean newspaper that he had a "pre-arrangement" signed with the team long ago and that the Spurs decided to "execute" it now...
I assume it's all okay so long as nobody put their John Han to it (a la Joe Smith).
He also told the reporter that there are some details left that they are still arranging, but it's being finalized. He said that he's been told since he was 21 that he was coming to the NBA, but now he's is so close that it feels very special.
its not like he was for draft, but i was wondeirng if it was allowed too, i was going to post is that even allowed, but i figured the spurs wouldn;t cheat like the twolves did and lose draft picks for years
but anyways if they did FIRE POP
but surely SHAQ and other teams have did more tampering
I even asked before about MANU influsencing his agent not to have suns sign bell
Yeah, when he was 21 he was one of the better Argentine players in the 1996 Olympics. Ten years later, he finally makes the big time.
Congrats.
Perhaps negotiations with Manu went so extraordinarily smooth last year just because of this.
CIA Manu!
I think the Oberto signing is great. He looks like a bargain to me. With Nazr and Rasho as compe ion, I say he is an even bet to start and should earn significant minutes.
Who knows what will happen with Scola, but we hold all the cards in that situation.
I do not know why some think Nazr has trade value. With one year left on his contract why would anyone want him, then have go unrestricted next summer? I think we ride him out. I am not a fan of his offensive game and habit of getting stripped or fumbling passes repeatedly. We can do better but he's not a bad player to have on the roster.
Rasho has more trade value since he is locked into his deal. But his stock is low, so I am thinking why would anyone help us by taking on his contract and giving a player we want (Rahim)? Then again, 7-footers of even his moderate (at best) skill level are always in demand. Portland could probably use him and their cap management has always been weak. This is a difficult call, but I think he stays another year at least. I think he is capable of playing better than he did last year. He is a nice problem to have.
I think SAR or AD would be great additions. AD was a stud in the playoffs and plays great D. He would be worth the MLE. SAR could come in a Rasho deal (or MLE?) but would be well worth it. You don't pass on a career 20 point scorer still in his 20s.
As several have said before, we are in a great position. I have faith that the brass will improve the team while continuing their cap mastery. It is also a safe bet that we won't add any clowns that would tarnish our great image and hurt team chemistry.
Does anyone know how we are paying Horry? I guess he does not count against the MLE since he is resigning with the same team? What a great pickup he was!
Oberto = 6' 10" in bare feet (barely): Come on, that is tall! Many NBA players heights are overstated 1/2 to 1.5 inches. Everyone rounds up, and some of those heights are with shoes. He is probably within an inch height of Duncan, who looked like the biggest guy on the court throughout the playoffs (other than that big lug Jerome James). I think this guy will surprise the skeptics, although he could lose the gay headband!

some people like contracts that expire to clear cap space
I've been watching oberto since 1999, and IMO, he's better than Scola.
The bad thing is that he's older. I'm happy for him, because this was one of his last chances to get to the nba, and he made it.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's the start center. Manu and Oberto were, and will be, great playing together.
yeah i don't get why people are sad we got oberto he is better then scola, i wanted him awhile back
the more long haired argentines the better!
Teams with cap problems would sell their mothers for the chance to get a skilled center with an expiring contract.I do not know why some think Nazr has trade value. With one year left on his contract why would anyone want him, then have go unrestricted next summer?
Interesting Pic

Tim: "I'll be seing you in a spurs jersey"
I didn't know Timmy = nostradamus
"we kicked your butts, didnt we?"
I don't see why a prearranged deal with a player who is not in the NBA would be illegal.
The Joe Smith situation allowed the Timberwolves to cir vent the salary cap by artificially lowering his salary one year in exchange for an agreement to raise it substantially in later years. It is against the rules of the CBA because it affected the ability of other teams to negotiate in good faith to obtain Smith's services while allowing the Timberwolves to develop means to pay Smith a greater salary than they otherwise could have.
Here, the Spurs made a deal that is, in essence, little different than a pre-arranged deal to draft a certain player in a particular spot. If there was a deal with Oberto, that deal didn't allow the Spurs to cir vent the salary cap while getting the benefit of Oberto's play. If there was a deal, it was simply a deal that Oberto would listen to the Spurs first or that the Spurs would make an offer to Oberto in a particular year. If they had paid Oberto in the past or something like that, then there are big problems. But if they just had an agreement to make an offer in the future, I can't see the problem.
