Damn, brings what’s most important in life to the forefront…

Was hoping that Pop would be able to guide this team to an unlikely playoff berth, turning a current rebuild into a budding contender before ultimately stepping down. This appears unlikely now.

Grateful for watching one of the league’s best ever do it, even through these uneven years.

Not writing this as a farewell, just a humble appreciation for how big a role the Spurs, Pop and co. have had on my life through the sport I love.

Wishing you all the best Spurs fam.

Trump for the win 🏆 He really got to old man Pops. Hope he's gone forever and we never hear from him again 👍🏻
Dude, you have to be a very special kind of piece of to wish death upon someone just because of different points of view on politics, tbh.

People break their relationships with their children over this stuff. They love a hateful bag more than they love their own kids. Tells you all you need to know about where their hearts are.

If he proves to do a good job this season, I don't see why move away from him. At the end of the day, Wemby will probably decide.

My MiL had a stroke the same day. She's back home from rehab and required to use a walker for a couple of weeks. Hopefully his was as mild as hers and we will see him soon.

Look who just won the finals - a rookie coach.
Udoka was also a rookie when he got to the finals.
    Warriors are Kerr's first job.
    Spoelstra was also a rookie.
OKC, Timberwolves and Grizzlies have rookie coaches.
Most importantly, Pop was a rookie.

Obviously Mitch has to be evaluated properly, but if he does well there's no reason for him to keep going.
He's been with the team since 2016.
If there are no top level candidates, I'd rather have a young coach than any of those washed guys.

Glad to know Pop is on the road to recovery but hopefully he retires from coaching for his own health. The stress of being an NBA coach and front office person is definitely not something you want to be mixing with a stroke.

Winningest coach ever, one of if not the greatest coach in nba history. Nothing left to prove.

Not saying it's impossible, just that it's an isane risk.

LeBowen some of those names have plenty of exp at the highest level as player, been there done that factor is massive especially when u talk to men in a lockerrom. Spoelstra had Riley next to him and it took him 3-4 years to start being elite.

PO basketball is also very diff than RS

It's my pov today with what Mitch showed me and the countless examples in different sports. Being an elite coach is such a complex package that goes beyond just the knowledge of the sport.

He's just too young to me and Spurs will pay the price of his development that goes with unavoidable mistakes he has to go through

Unless you get an elite coach (which you won't, since they are all taken) it is better to go with a rookie coach with promise, than a known, mid, veteran one.

For example: any unknown would be better than a Mike Brown or Monty Williams.

    Why not a combo Becky-Mitch?

We can wait the end of the season and who knows what will be Bud or Ime's situations (my 2 prefered choices) be?

I'll gladly admit it if I'm wrong and Mitch ends up elite, I just don't see it tbh

The thing is that it's easy to fire a rookie coach, but if you get a big name and he fails...then you got yourself a problem.
A young coach should be Pop's successor, then if we can't actually win playoff series in two years try to go for Kerr since he'll probably be done with the Warrios when Steph retires.

everytime i see this thread bumped i keep opening it in hopes of seeing a pop health news update but nothing

i wish this thread would not be used for political talk or for next head coach talk. we have threads for both of those topics.
