    The timing does seem strange.

What is gained by doing this so precipitously?
Agree, it's probably nothing but does feel like positioning for additional moves due to the odd timing

The Spurs didn't even wait to see who would be available for tomorrow. Probably wanted somebody who would accept a 2-way contract and didn't find any player willing to do that at 38
Good call and most realistic imho

It does seem strange that they'd do this before the draft unless there are more moves coming.

Harder to find a trade partner if the board doesn't fall right.

Spurs trade back from #14 for a pick in the early 20s and a future pick imo.
I was hoping they'd do #14 and #38 for #19 and #22, scoop 2 of Wolf/Beringer/Flemming/McNeeley/Raynaud or anything that falls, but then we traded our 2nd to Indy (again).
No room to develop 3 rooks, gotta get ing Branham some minutes

The Spurs certainly need more future second rounders!

LOL Absolutely predictable. Spurs don't value SRPs, even ones high in the draft (though there is a fair statement to say where you pick in the second round may not matter... the second round acts more as a pseudo free agency than it does a true draft).

This isn't a criticism, just an acknowledgement of fact.
if this is true, we ought to see them be aggressive in trading SRPs for players (like john collins)

Nancy always buys Kings draft picks, most reliable NBA thing to go up in value.

Said the same thing last year but I really hate how they've been approaching the 2nd round these last few years. They pretty much won't touch anybody that won't agree to a 2 way.

There's value to be had there tbh even if NIL thins the talent pool. , OKC just won a championship with a bunch of 2nd rounders earning rotation mins throughout the year.
Memphis been doing great work with SRPs too. The severe decline of Spurs scouting/development department over the past few years has been truly stunning (we've barely getting value out of 9th & 11th picks these days).. And we've straight given up on picks in 30s range as it seems..

There goes my drake powell dreams
I doubt Drake Powell gets to 38, Spurs probably have to trade into the late 20s to have a shot at him (I'd definitely like that). This probably saved us from picking the 2025 version of Nuñez or Ingram. Spurs can't pick 2nd rounders to save their life for many years.
