OK, I keep seeing this, and it needs to be addressed. If you’re a US citizen working overseas, you still have to pay taxes to Uncle Sugar. If Greece had taxed him, that bill could be applied towards his US taxes, but you still gotta pay.
Ummm, DJG is not a US citizen

The issue with the BAE is that a team can't use it 2 years in a row.

If Spurs want to use it to sign/trade for a player, they have to think too at the 2026/27 season. Could they need the BAE next season? What will be their financial situation regarding the cap/tax/apron?

It's not like the MLE where it is: use it or it is wasted. Using the BAE could negatively impact the 2026/27 season and I guess Spurs won't use it on a marginal trade/FA.
I think I've asked before, can't remember if it was answered, though. With the BAE, can you just keep deferring it if you don't use? For example, if they don't use it next year too, can it just be deferred to the next season.

As for using it this year, I definitely wouldn't use it on a marginal player. There's not really anyone left worth signing with it I don't think? They should keep it for next season IMO (unless someone really good is bought up during the season, maybe they could entice said player with it, but otherwise, I think they should keep it).

sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but this actually shows what the Spurs are likely to do with himBeing on a two way actually means he’ll barely play on the main squad loland it means he has a small chance of ever converting that two way to a regular contractand if it does convert, it won’t be until a year or two from now
no bubbles are being burst. this is the appopriate way to deal with somebody like DJG. he was a 4 year college player that wasnt seen as draftable. he spent last year in the gleague and was solid there, but shot 34% from 3... but again, wasnt really on the radar but managed to get onto a summer league team, then he was on fire for a handful of summer league games. what are you supposed to make of that, full time NBA rotation player? of course not. 2-way and him spending a lot of time in austin is exactly what you'd expect for somebody of this profile

You just can't use the BAE two years in a row. If Spurs don't use it in 26/27, they could use it in 27/28 provided they are in the right salary window (above the cap and bellow the first apron).

As a 3rd center, why does Biyambo have to be 28 instead of 33? He came in and did a great job, vacuuming up boards at a 23.4 DRB%.
As we both said, he did a great job for the spurs. He was steady and ready when called upon - no question about it. Who knows, if one of our bigs gets injured, they may call him again for a temporary assignment, but at this point, even as a 15th guy, I think the spurs just want someone younger, hopefully with a somewhat similar skillset as Biyombo. I can see the spurs having Biyombo's phone number on speed dial - just in case. With injuries, you never know.

A third string spot won’t see much development time. If they have a young big in mind, a two way would be the way to go.

This guy might not stick but for those requesting the Spurs find a diamond in the rough, this is how it's done.

For an end of the bench or two way player, they should either be:
    1) a young project
    2) a seasoned vet the teach the young kids about professionalism
    3) a practice player
    4) some combination of the above.

Personally I think DJG is a practice player with hopes of becoming a project. Fingers crossed.

I don't get this. I understand anything could happen in 2, 3, 4 years, but I don't think anyone is looking at a scenario of Castle, Harper being gone, or even Fox at these early stages (maybe in 3+ years time), and if so, why do we need to look at how DJG fits with a squad a few years down the line? I don't think he's that big of a difference maker when comparing to Castle, Harper, Fox to be looking at how he fits down the line if any/all of them are gone. I don't even want to think about a scenario of any or all of them being gone. I want them to succeed with the Spurs.
They don't have to fail to be off the team. The Spurs could decide to make a big trade as early as this season for someone like Giannis, and in the wake of that they'll need cheap guards in the system.

We don't have to think about any of this, but we shouldn't dismiss depth because the skill-set is "too similar" to other players. He's talent, and the team has him in the pipeline. That's never a bad thing, but it's definitely not when talking about a roster like the Spurs which is trying to transition into a compe ive and then contending squad.

Alright, fair enough. I guess I didn't think about an upgrade as I don't think there is hardly any players in the NBA that would be an upgrade if moving more than one of them for a single player, except, maybe someone like Giannis.

Glad he's in. I'm sure he will work hard to convert that two-way contact into a full NBA contract.
