The Spurs would rather badly overpay Francisco Elson than slightly overpay Robertas Javtokas.

You take the FO for dumb guys. When you make an offer for two RFAs at the same time, you think at the case where you get both.
Elson and Butler make a lot of sense.
Elson : solid player (at least it's what the FO think) for now.
Butler : project with upside for the future.

Javtokas has been highly overrated by the Spurs fans here. He wasn't worth what he wanted.
half a leg
does not cut it
spurs wanted to make sure his leg could handle a full season and playoffs
he thought about that and said screw you
Eh. He was a much better option than Elson was... and would've still been cheaper.
My guess is that it wasn't Elson or Javtokas but Javtokas or Butler.
They wanted a center with some nba experience and a project.
This is my view, too.
I'm not down on Elson. He's going to foul people really hard. Having an enforcer on this team is an idea that came one year too late. Otherwise, he's going to be as productive as either of our unproductive centers last season and we can try to get rid of him next summer as an expiring (or keep... whatever...).
It all comes down to Butler. This was all a success because we get a budding Jackie Butler.
I think you are right.
The 7 days were up for both today.
How far apart could there offers have been? Like I said, they needed 2 centers, they made offers to two centers. I don't see why you would think they weren't expecting Butler to actually sign.
Unless they just sign players to offer sheets for s and giggles.
Hey what happend to you can't trade a player for 2 mos. after hes been traded
This doesnt make much sense. Even if the werent expecting to sign Butler, how in any way would that make Buford et al to 'overpay' an inferior player.
Methinks youre too much in love with Reggie.
Nugget fan continues to say "this guy is gonna be a good player for your team we are sorry to see him go" Serious as can be too.
But everyone keeps hating on the guy.
Whatever.
Most Nuggets fans I've read on Nuggets boards have been saying for the last week or so that he's okay, but would rather keep Evans or spend the money elsewhere.
I don't think Elson is going to be much of a factor positively or negatively for the Spurs. He'll get his 15 mpg and hopefully hold his own.
What he brings to the Nuggets is probably not as valuable as what he would bring here. They dont' have a Tim Duncan in the post, they don't have the slashers/shooters we do.
We have very few needs, and Elson fits one of them...in my opinion. Nuggets fans probably feel they have bigger holes to fill.
When Nene and Camby and KMart go down next season, they'll be crying like es for the 'cisco kid.
But they've got Kleiza and Evans who are supposedly twice the players he is, so they won't care![]()

The one board I know of, is pretty pissed that they let him go.
Kleiza actually is a very good player. I saw him play in person against Utah this year and he was very impressive.
Right.
I disagree because hes still a total unproven player, and hardly got minutes last year compared to Elson.
right on![]()
LK is a stud and he is going to be great in this league. He was very productive in only sporatic minutes last season![]()
i cant wait to see his production when GK actually plays him some decent minutes
he has already proven himself to the Nuggets fanbase and organisation. The only issue is that he is similart to Najera but has a much better offensive game. He was stuck behind alot of people last season and GK HATES playing rookies. This season he will be great and hopefully get some more minutes if they unload Eddie![]()
Will Elson probably start (over Butler)? I'm assuming so since Butler can't play a lick of defense.
That's what everyone's assuming, but I don't think the organization has actually confirmed it.
Most everyone around these parts is hoping that Butler will pick up the defensive system and grow into a starting role sometime this season. Obviously, we'll see how it goes.
I think this is a fallacy about Butler's defense. It's hard to gauge, since he played for such an awful defensive team. Perimeter defense porous, no philosophy of help defense, etc.
He may be bad at post defense, but I see no reason he can't pick it up. He's a hard worker, just hasn't played where defense was job #1.
Yeah, it's amazing how some players can actually play pretty decent defense when it's ACTUALLY expected from them.![]()
