Mavs fans have found one positive in this series - that it "isn't Dirk's fault" this time.
Absolutely wrong. It IS Dirk's fault still.
Josh Howard took 16 shots, Dirk took..........18.
If you're the goddamn leader of this team, do you allow Smokey to jack up 16 worthless shots while you put up only 18? You KNOW that you are the ONLY HOPE this team has of winning, and you defer to Josh & Jet for brick after brick after brick?
Mavs fans may use this series and season as redemption for Dirk, but in my opinion this indicts him as a non-leader more than any other playoff series he's ever played in. He had his chances to take the game over and decided not to, he had his chances to push the momentum in Dallas' favor and he missed more key free throws.
He went through the motions and acted like he gave a , but Dirk mailed in this game just as much as everyone else on the team. 22 points? In the 2nd half he sees that the entire team has NOTHING and does he take over? No, he's letting DEVEAN ING GEORGE jack up shots.
Just like they've seen the huge flaws of Smokey & Avery, it's time for all Mavs fans to finally admit that Dirk is what he is. He's NOT soft, he's NOT a choker, but he's also NOT A LEADER. Any team with Dirk as their best player will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be capable of winning a championship. End of story.
Just blow this entire team the up.
I seemed to have missed the trophy presentation for those 67 wins last season. They won the whole thing, right? Again, that was a coaching error by having the guys play playoff basketball throughout the regular season and then changing lineups and ting the bed against GS. It's cool, though. The piece of crap that has ruined this team - Avery - is about to be out of here soon enough. He'll end up as an assistant to Pop and will spend the next couple years being groomed to take over the Spurs gig. It's where his heart has always been. And him for being like that.
This game, once again, was a microcosm of all the team's problems throughout the year. The stupid coaching decision. The stupid lineup changes. Bench players that aren't worth a . Guys tuning out their coach. Josh Howard continuing to regress. Terrible half-court basketball. Veterans that have no business on a current roster. Failure to do what it necessary to take over a game. Complacency. Settling.
Last night, Dirk and Terry were the only two playing with even a modi of heart. Everyone else couldn't possibly fathom the seriousness of a "must win" game and, if they could, they didn't have the strength or mental for ude to have it translate to the court. Next year, give me Dirk, give me Terry, give me Kidd, Bass, Wright and Dampier. Everyone else can hit the ing bricks. A new coach will come in and we'll see what can be accomplished with a new mindset and a leader that isn't consistently outcoached.
lol play the other J-Ho, you'll get more point production and a smarter player.

it didnt matter who the Mavs PG was, they would have been down 3-1 regardless because your so called 2nd best player cant shoot 15-58 for 26% in the playoffs. Add to the fact that J-Ho is shooting 15% in quarter 2-4

I'm stunned at the regression of Josh Howard, from the "next Scottie Pippen" to a homeless man's Michael Finley. And we're not talking early in his career with the Suns and Mavs slasher Michael Finley, but grizzled vet with the Spurs Michael Finley.

This team is not built well around Dirk. It was 2 years ago but Avery ed that up. Too bad J-Ho has lost his game. Harris and Daniels were also good fits around Dirk. Both getting easy baskets and putting pressure on the defense. This team is just too old now. We lost our best shotblocker and slasher and J-Ho has become crap. Too much is being asked of Dirk just like too much was being asked of Kobe a couple years ago. Get the right pieces of role players and Dirk can be successful. 2 games from a championship until D-Whistle took over.
Mav's fans around the world can take solace that they weren't the only ones that f'kd up their team. You have good company in the Suns lol.
