Per 24/7, RB Kevin Shorter of Newton will likely quit football after a recent evaluaton of his spinal cord injury. Texas is already seeking other options at RB and Shorter will be given a medical scholarship to UT where he can go to school for free but won't count against roster numbers.

I truly respect Mack for this position. He doesn't have to honor the scholarship, but Texas has the money and it sends a message to kids that no matter what happens Texas will be behind you. I hope the next coach at Texas follows suit.

I second this. I have always thought that he was one of if not the best recruiter in the country. This is the kind of guy the horns need to re-energize the recruiting base.

After losing to Kansas and then Iowa State (after losing a 24 point lead), I figured he'd be fired.

But his buyout is ridiculous is at $11.3 million, so I now get why he's being retained.
