That article is mostly about them wanting info on Manafort....Manafort is already in jail waiting a hefty jail sentence while he also waits for another trial where he will be found of having committed additional crimes.

Actually, that is what is called- investigating. Of course the FBI is going to interview suspects, witnesses, Russians close to Putin, etc. Why wouldn't they? This is how you conduct investigations. Obviously, it gave them all the info they needed to secure Manaforts convictions and evidence to try him on even more counts - unless he gives up the traitor in chief before the next trial.
