There's really nothing awkward about it. It's perfectly logical.
Russia won't deliberately attack NATO because it would be pointless and suicidal.
NATO doesn't attack Russia because it's a defensive alliance and has no interest in getting dragged into this war.
Until bad mistakes take place. Like Russia sending submarines into Finnish waters and also firing missiles purposely aimed over Polish territory. All kinds of mistakes that are not backed the ability to talk to one another because very important diplomatic and military communications are also cut off and used as a threat by Russia.
It’s just more dangerous for everyone and it will stay this way with Putin’s mistake of invading, lying, and especially if he does not feel any sense of a backlash.
